The Linc – Mekhi Becton says playing football hasn’t been this fun for him since college

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 11/28/24.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

How the Eagles helped Mekhi Becton rediscover his love for football – NBCSP
Mekhi Becton is having fun again. After a rough few years, the 25-year-old free agent pickup has helped solidify the Eagles’ offensive line at right guard. And in the process, he has rediscovered his love for the sport. Becton credits the Eagles for helping him get there. “I haven’t had this kind of fun since my junior year of college,” Becton said on Wednesday. “You can almost say I lost love for the game in a way. Because I was just in a bad place. But they definitely brought my love for the game back, for sure.”

Eagles-Rams Film Review: Another solid game from Jalen Hurts – BGN
I’ve been asking on Twitter, but nobody seems to have a great nickname for the Cam Jurgens and Mekhi Becton duo. They deserve a nickname. Landon Dickerson is normally left to block by himself, which means that Jurgens and Becton are responsible for combination blocks (where two linemen double-team a defensive tackle, and then one climbs to the second level). Considering this is their first season playing next to each other, it looks as if they have been playing together for years because the film is so good. Jeff Stoutland deserves a lifetime contract because I cannot explain just how good the Eagles’ offensive line was in this one. Saquon Barkley is the best back in the league and is phenomenal, but this offensive line is balling out, too. The Eagles’ run game is so diverse, and it feels like there is nothing this offensive line can’t do.

Fantasy Football WR Report: Man, zone coverage performance ahead of NFL Week 13 – PFF
The Ravens play man coverage at an above-average rate while ranking 20th in yards allowed per coverage snap (6.04) and 21st in first down-plus-touchdown rate allowed (43.6%) from man, as they’ve steadily improved in recent weeks. A.J. Brown leads all wide receivers (minimum of 25 routes) in fantasy points per route run and owns an elite 36% target rate. He also leads the position in PFF receiving grade (92.7) and yards per route run (5.18). Although Baltimore’s coverage unit has improved, Brown should continue his high-end fantasy production this week.

Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry set to be first 1,300-yard rushers in same game since 2012 – PFT
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and Ravens running back Derrick Henry both changed teams this offseason and they have both thrived in their new homes. Barkley leads the NFL with 1,392 rushing yards, Henry is second with 1,325 and no other back has reached the 1,000-yard mark, so there’s not much debate about who the top two backs are in the league this season. The two players will be in the same place when the Eagles play in Baltimore on Sunday and their meeting is a rare moment for the NFL. It is the first time that two backs have each entered a game with 1,300 rushing yards since Adrian Peterson and Arian Foster played in a 2012 game between the Vikings and the Texans. Ravens fullback Patrick Ricard called it cool to have two backs “getting the premier look of being franchise players” given the recent history of the league and said the Ravens want to get the edge on the ground on Sunday.

Charles Harris: ‘You can feel that winning is part of the culture’ – PE.com
Step 1 happened on Wednesday. Harris has a feel for what the Eagles are all about, and he expects it to only get better. “This is a really good team, a great organization, and a top defense,” Harris said after practice on Wednesday. “I feel like I’m the perfect fit. I can off the ball and get after the quarterback, get physical against the run. I’m trying to be everything the team needs, however they utilize me, and play at a high level. The morale here, across the board, you can feel that winning is part of the culture. It rubs off on everybody. You’re ready to win, too.”

John Harbaugh’s gambles pay major dividends and 4 more takeaways from bounce-back win over Chargers – Baltimore Beatdown
After a week of hearing and reading about how he got outcoached by Mike Tomlin in the Ravens’ latest loss to the Steelers, Harbaugh proved why he is still one of the best in the league with a masterclass of courage, aggression and strategy he exhibited in this game as he outcoached his younger brother on a nationally-televised stage. While he wasn’t the one dialing up the Ravens’ play calls on their successful fourth-down conversions, his decision to leave the offense on the field and go for them deserves a lot of recognition. All three of the Ravens’ fourth-down conversion attempts were instances when the offense just needed one yard to extend the drive with Harbaugh’s first being the boldest and setting the tone for the rest of the game. Facing a fourth-and-1 from the Baltimore 16-yard line, he sent the offense back on the field coming out of the two-minute warning and tight end Mark Andrews lined up under center where he proceeded to drive his legs and get tush pushed from behind for a two-yard gain and fresh set of downs.

Rams Film Review: Eagles prove to be too much in the trenches – Turf Show Times
Eagles dominated the trenches. Coming into the game on Sunday night against the Eagles, the Rams needed to win the battle up-front. For the first quarter and a half, they managed to stay in the fight in that department. However, around the middle of the second quarter, that completely changed as the Eagles started to wear down the Rams offensive and defensive lines. There were a few times, especially on defense, where the Rams were simply blown off of the ball. In the play below, Tyler Davis gets completely taken out of the play and Omar Speights gets yeeted into another dimension.

Commanders QB Jayden Daniels on whether he’s hitting rookie wall: ‘I don’t know’ – NFL.com
Is the rookie wall a myth or a reality? Jayden Daniels isn’t quite sure, but the Washington Commanders’ dynamic first-year quarterback admittedly is getting used to a much longer and arduous season. “I mean, I don’t know,” Daniels said Wednesday, via team transcript, when asked if he’d hit the rookie wall. “Obviously, it’s longer, so it’s different. It’s just stuff getting used to, like usually right now in college, the season’s about [to] end. Our season, it’s just starting, somewhere like the second half of the season. So, I mean, that’s different, but I don’t really know the definition of a rookie wall. I just know that NFL season is longer [than] college.”

Stats and Snaps: Week 12 Commanders vs Cowboys – Hogs Haven
According to PFF, Daniels was pressured 14 times, including the 4 sacks. That was the fourth most pressures he has faced this season. His pressure to sack ratio of 28.6% was his second highest of the season, after the Week 2 Giants game (38.5%). Daniels completed 78.6% of passes for 240 yds and 2 TDs from clean pockets compared to just 30% for 35 yds and 2 TDs when under pressure. About those two INTs. The first was on a short pass which hit Brian Robinson in the hands and was tipped to Cowboys DT Chauncey Golston. Robinson was open and positioned between the passer and the defender. It was a good throw into a tight windo. The second was on a Hail Mary with time expiring. Concerns that the Commanders rookie phenom has lost his signature ball security would seem to be unwarranted.

Cowboys fans still aren’t convinced, majority want them to tank the season – Blogging The Boys
Finally, we answer the ‘tank or not tank’ question. Cowboys fans say tank!

Jobs on the line for Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen, and more ‘things I think’ before Giants-Cowboys – Big Blue View
If the New York Giants get embarrassed by the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday in similar fashion to the way they were embarrassed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, it is not hard to imagine Brian Daboll not being the head coach when the Giants host the New Orleans Saints in Week 14. Maybe GM Joe Schoen would get shown the door with him. Thing is, it’s not hard to imagine the Giants — who have made a specialty of embarrassing themselves in front of national TV audiences in recent years — doing just that. The Giants showed most of the time in the first 10 games that they are better than the way they played on Sunday. If that is the best they can muster, though, it is certainly not good enough. The 2-9 Giants are a mess.

NFL honoring John Madden on Thanksgiving 2024 – SB Nation
Week 13 of the 2024 NFL season brings three Thanksgiving games to football fans. The first of the three games kicks off in Detroit, where the Lions will host the Chicago Bears in Detroit’s annual Thanksgiving Day game. The NFL action continues throughout the day with the Dallas Cowboys hosting the New York Giants in the afternoon, and the Green Bay Packers hosting the Miami Dolphins at Lambeau Field Thursday night. As the league has done for the past two seasons, the NFL will honor John Madden in each of the three games.
