New York Giants news for Thanksgiving Day 2024

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

10 things to watch in Giants vs. Cowboys | Giants.com

Tyrone Tracy and the rest of the Giants’ run game has an opportunity to get back on track Thursday against a struggling Cowboys run defense. Dallas enters this game ranking 28th in rushing yards allowed per attempt and 31st in total rushing yards surrendered, while their 19 rushing touchdowns given up lead the league. In the Cowboys’ last six games, only one opponent has finished with under 140 yards on the ground. During that span, opponents are averaging 163.3 yards on the ground per game.

8. New York Giants. In the secondary, the team’s second- and third-round picks—safety Tyler Nubin and nickel corner Andru Phillips—have been strong contributors from the start of the season. The latter has been as good as any rookie in coverage.

Fourth-rounder Theo Johnson continues to start, and he’s fourth on the squad with 24 receptions. Tyrone Tracy Jr.’s selection with the 166th overall pick has been one of the class’ biggest steals. He leads all rookies with 587 rushing yards.

No rookie cornerback has made more defensive stops in coverage than Andru Phillips‘ 17.

Giants’ Wan’Dale Robinson ready to live up to CeeDee Lamb’s high praise | New York Post

Lamb and Robinson — who rank No. 1 and No. 10 in the league in targets this season — will share the field on Thanksgiving when the Giants visit the Cowboys.

“I’ve never had a conversation with him or anything like that,” Robinson told The Post. “We have the same trainer (Delfonte Diamond), but we’ve never been in the same session. Maybe he was like, ‘You should watch some of Wan’Dale’ or whatever? But I had no idea that was coming. People were sending it to me. It’s definitely nice to get love from your peers.”

Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II had nine sacks through Week 7, which was the most in NFL. He has had zero sacks since then, but one more would make him the third Giants player with double-digit sacks through 12 games in the past 15 seasons.

Giants’ Bobby Okereke comments on weak effort vs. Buccaneers: ‘I mean, I could always do better’ | NJ.com

After the Giants’ embarrassing 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, several team leaders used some form of the word “soft” to describe how they played. The lack of effort linebacker Bobby Okereke showed Tampa running back Bucky Irving’s 56-yard run in the fourth quarter would certainly that fit the definition of a “soft” play.

Brian Daboll isn’t letting ‘soft’ Giants narrative fly | New York Post

Brian Daboll stood before his emotionally battered Giants on Monday and tried to shoot the soft elephant in the room between the eyes, The Post has learned:

“This is not a soft team. This is one of the hardest-working teams [I’ve] been around. We haven’t had the results that we’ve wanted.

Giants, Colts, Jaguars have NFL GMs on the hot seat, as pressure mounts for others | The Athletic

Joe Schoen, New York Giants. Schoen, who became GM in 2022, now has two epic failures hanging over him: Quarterback Daniel Jones’ benching and release, and running back Saquon Barkley’s dominating season for the Philadelphia Eagles after Schoen deemed him unworthy of a handsome contract extension. The Giants have regressed ever since their surprising playoff run in 2022. Their roster remains sorely talent deficient, and Schoen hasn’t displayed an ability to get things back on track. As the season continues to crash and burn — the Giants are 2-9 — drastic changes seem necessary.

What’s the Giants’ future at QB? NFL Draft expert Dane Brugler breaks down their options | The Athletic

If we combine last year’s quarterbacks with this year’s, the debate starts at QB4. My grade on JJ McCarthy would be higher than any of the prospects in the 2025 class. For me, Ward and Sanders enter the discussion at QB5, along with Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr.

The progress has been impressive as Ward has gone from a wing-T offense in high school to the strict Air Raid systems at Incarnate Word and Washington State and now part of a more diversified Air Raid scheme at Miami. I think Ward’s initial NFL playing time will be a bumpy ride as he adjusts to NFL speed, but I also think he has the mental toughness to ultimately become a better player because of it if the organization remains patient.

Eli Manning destined for Hall of Fame, but when? | ESPN.com

The debate around Manning’s Pro Football Hall of Fame candidacy isn’t that different to his playing career. As he sits on the precipice of Canton as one of 25 semifinalists for the Class of 2025, it’s hardly a slam dunk that Manning gets voted in during his first year of eligibility.

ESPN recently took a straw poll of 10 HOF voters. Seven thought Manning would get into the Hall … eventually. Only two were confident he would be a first-ballot inductee. Two others thought he had a chance of getting in this year but anticipate he will meet some resistance.

This week’s opponent

Brandin Cooks activated by Cowboys, set for Thanksgiving return vs. Giants | DallasCowboys.com

To make room for Cooks on the active 53-man roster, Caelen Carson has been moved to injured reserve with a shoulder injury that’s plagued him for weeks now and cost him several games, including the Week 11 matchup against the Washington Commanders.

That means, barring Trevon Diggs taking the field, which is unexpected due to a groin and knee injury he’s working through, it will be Josh Butler again taking the start opposite DaRon Bland.

How Lamb’s dominance has been a rare constant during Cowboys’ disappointing season | CBSSports.com

In regular-season games without quarterback Dak Prescott, Lamb has averaged 12.0 targets and 16.8 fantasy points per game. With Rush under center, he should get plenty of looks, especially because the Giants have allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 70.8% of their passes.

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants: Week 13 matchups to watch for Thanksgiving | Blogging The Boys

KaVontae Turpin vs. New York Giants. For the second consecutive week in a row KaVontae Turpin has had a 60+ yard explosive play that resulted in a touchdown. First it was in Week 11 with the 64-yard TD reception against the Texans, and then he followed that up with a 99-yard kick return against the Commanders. While he’s better known as one of the most explosive return men in the league, he is also proving to be just as dangerous on the offensive side of the ball when given the chance.

A Journey Deep Into the Heart and Heartbreak of Dallas Cowboys Fandom | The Ringer

It used to be that Cowboys fans were front-runners. Now they’re hanging out at one of football’s most disappointing parties. What animates the massive diasporic fandom—and what does its persistence in the face of America’s Team’s failure say about the grand American experiment?
