Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
Brandon Graham: A Hall of Fame-worthy Eagles career – PFF
At 36 years old with 15 seasons under his belt, Graham has enjoyed a storied NFL tenure, but one must wonder if this is the end. If it is, he has done more than enough to warrant a bust in Canton. […] Graham will go down as a great pass-rusher who didn’t record the sack totals one would expect from such a dominant player, but his career has been much stronger when looking past the box score. Since entering the league in 2010, Graham has been the seventh-most valuable edge defender in football, per PFF WAR. He ranks behind only Von Miller, Khalil Mack, J.J. Watt, Calais Campbell, Cameron Jordan and Myles Garrett. Rounding out the top 10 behind Graham are DeMarcus Lawrence, Michael Bennett and T.J. Watt. Graham also ranks fifth during that stretch in regular-season pressures (702) and ninth in PFF pass-rush grade (92.2). Among players with at least 1,000 pass-rush snaps since 2010, Graham places seventh in pass-rush win rate (16.9%) and 11th in pressure rate (15.5%). Anyone who has watched Graham during his 15-year career, all of which came in an Eagles jersey, knows his play goes beyond the traditional stat sheet.
The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the best teams in the NFL again – SB Nation
I’ve been apprehensive to buy all the way in on the Detroit Lions from the moment that people started to act like they were the first person to say that they were good. More than anything it was this exact thing that drove me away. Maybe I am a hipster. Whatever the case I just don’t know that I can say that I would pick Detroit, as amazing as they look, in a hypothetical game against the Philadelphia Eagles. It pains me greatly to admit, but Philly is a freaking machine. They are relentless and seem more sustainable than any of the previous versions of themselves and obviously Saquon Barkley is the reason why. With San Francisco flailing and the rest of the conference in general disarray (I suppose you can toss the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings in the conversation) I can’t pick against Philly in the NFC.
“The Saquon Game” takes its place among greatest games in Eagles lore – BGN
Most Eagles fans knew the addition of Saquon Barkley to an already talented offensive roster would be a good one. He’s always been one of the better running backs in the league, playing behind an always-leaky New York offensive line and with a quarterback and skill position group that leaned on him with no mercy. I don’t think any of us realized what would happen when he played behind a Jeff Stoutland offensive line and with a real quarterback and wide receivers. Barkley added another log onto his MVP fire with Sunday night’s franchise record-setting and career-high 255 yards rushing and 302 total yards from scrimmage in the Eagles’ 37-20 thumping of the Rams in Los Angeles.
Saquon Does It Again! Takeaways From the Eagles’ Seventh Straight Win. – The Ringer
The Eagles beat the Rams in L.A. for their seventh straight win this season. Sheil and Brandon Lee Gowton discuss Saquon Barkley’s stellar performance and more on Jalen Hurts and the defense. Has Saquon firmly put himself at the top of the NFL MVP conversation (3:32)? How tough will it be for the Eagles not to have Brandon Graham for the rest of the season (13:31)? Plus, more on the Eagles defense and a quick Nick Sirianni temp check (41:31).
Sunday night’s win over the Rams got the world talking about Saquon Barkley and the Eagles. There were a ton of articles and posts today discussing Barkley as an MVP candidate and the Eagles as a Super Bowl team. At the same time, I read about the Jets starting their search for a GM. I read about the Giants trying to figure out what to do with their coach and GM. I also read about Dallas, with a lot of people praising them playing hard and finding a way to break their 5-game losing streak. All that took was a miserable performance by the Commanders. With all of that in mind, let’s give some love to Howie Roseman. Howie signed Saquon Barkley back in March. Barkley was a star player, but not someone that all 32 teams coveted. The Giants couldn’t figure out a way to keep him and decided to replace Barkley with Devin Singletary and rookie Tyrone Tracy. Dallas desperately needed RB help, but didn’t make a move. Howie added Barkley and it looks like the best move of the offseason. Barkley is having a historic season and might be the MVP.
Saquon Barkley. The Eagles made one of the smartest moves of the offseason when they signed Barkley. There were plenty of skeptics who questioned the wisdom of giving big money to a running back with a history of injuries, but nobody is talking crap about that today. Barkley hasn’t merely been a productive runner (he leads the league in rushing after gaining 255 rush yards in a Sunday night win over the Rams). He’s become the heartbeat of this team, a player who’s made a number of game-changing plays and even provided one of the highlights of the year with his backward leap over a hapless defender in a win over Jacksonville. Derrick Henry was running away with Offensive Player of the Year at midseason. Barkley has made it a real debate ever since the Eagles started running their offense through him.
NFL Week 12: C.J. Stroud’s struggles, Saquon Barkley for MVP – ESPN+
Because he is so stinkin’ good, the Eagles’ offense feels less stoppable than ever before. Barkley has helped maximize a great line and a good running QB in Hurts. Barkley has turned minus-2-yard runs into 5-yard gains and 7-yard gains into 70-yard house calls. The fourth-quarter 12-10 lead against the Commanders became a 29-10 advantage following two 20-plus-yard touchdown runs from Barkley. A 65-yard scoring run by Barkley in the fourth quarter against the Saints got the Eagles’ offense on the board in a game Philly eventually stole. Overall, he has put points on the scoreboard and check marks in the win column. As such, Barkley is a deserving MVP candidate. Of course, it’s true that the Eagles would be worse without Hurts or A.J. Brown or Lane Johnson. And of course, it’s true that Barkley’s contract amounts to a fraction of what Hurts does. But in 2024, with what he has done for the Eagles’ offense, Barkley should have his name up there with Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen for the award. When I really sit down and think it out, I admit Jackson is more valuable to the Ravens’ offense than Barkley has been to the Eagles’ offense, and I’d probably cast my vote for the star Baltimore quarterback at this stage. But we don’t need Barkley to win the award to accept what his season has taught us about the position and its value in the league.
Eagles’ defense starting to resemble legendary 1991 unit – NBCSP
If you were around to see the legendary 1991 Eagles defense, you might be having flashbacks these days. After shutting down the Rams and their high-powered passing game Sunday night, the Eagles have now gone seven straight games allowing fewer than 300 yards and allowed an average of just 222 yards and 12.6 points per game during that span. That’s the fewest yards per game the Eagles have allowed in a seven-game stretch since 1991, when the Eagles were No. 1 in the NFL against both the pass and the run and allowed … 222 yards per game. This group isn’t quite there, but 11 games into the season they are No. 3 against the pass, No. 7 against the run and No. 1 overall. Last time they finished a season ranked No. 1? That was 1991. That was a veteran group loaded with all-pros and a Hall of Famer (or two hopefully soon) that had been together for years.
Why Eagles’ Saquon Barkley should be leading candidate for MVP with six games remaining – NJ.com
That’s almost impossible to do in today’s NFL. But because of Barkley the Eagles are doing it. It has been a dozen years since a non-quarterback has won the league MVP award and it has only happened four times in the 21st century. The last to do it was Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson in 2012. He rushed for 2,097 yards that season, the second highest total in league history, and he also led the league with 2,314 yards from scrimmage while accounting for 28 touchdowns. Except for the touchdowns part, which can be blamed mostly on the success of the Eagles’ quarterback sneaks near the goal line, Barkley is having a better season than Peterson had that year. He’s on pace to finish with 2,151 rushing yards, which would break Eric Dickerson’s 40-year-old record of 2,105 yards.
Spadaro: Eagles’ next-man-up mentality is put to the test again – PE.com
Nolan Smith: The second-year player is making significant strides after the Eagles made him a first-round draft pick (No. 30 overall) in 2023. He has a great burst off the line of scrimmage, bends well, and has been productive, expanding his repertoire of moves and gaining experience. Smith has 3.5 quarterback sacks and six QB hits in the last seven games.
Referee Land Clark shouldn’t have let Nick Sirianni play games with penalty decision – PFT
It’s not reasonable to let the coach see what the other team will do if the penalty is accepted or declined before making a final decision. The fact that it’s not a common part of overall coaching strategy during a game shows that it shouldn’t happen. That it doesn’t happen. The coach of the team who has the ability to choose whether to accept or to decline a penalty has to make the decision blind, without declining and then realizing the offense is staying off the field and shouting, “Psych!” Again, Sirianni did nothing wrong. Clark did. And hopefully all referees will be told to not let a coach change his mind once the other coach has declared the plan for proceeding based on whether the penalty was accepted or declined.
Eagles to sell two minority stakes at $8.1B valuation – SBJ
Getty Images Two families have each agreed to acquire small stakes in the Eagles, sources said, in deals that value the franchise at just north of $8.1B. Combined the new investors will hold 8% of the club, assuming NFL owners approve the transactions as expected.
10 takeaways from Rams blowout loss to Eagles in primetime – Turf Show Times
5. That was the worst performance in defending the run in a long time. The most rushing yards that the Rams had ever given up to a single player in the McVay era was to Tony Pollard in 2019. The Rams hadn’t allowed more than 200 yards rushing since 2012 when Adrian Peterson had 212 yards. Saquon Barkley rushed for 255 yards on Sunday night. That surpassed DeMarco Murray’s 253-yard performance for the most rushing yards allowed to a single player in a game in Rams franchise history. Over the past two months, the Rams have done well defending the run. The Eagles are a different offensive line that bullied the Rams’ smaller defensive front and Barkley is a different type of running back. Barkley had 136 rushing yards over expected. The Rams missed tackles and consistently struggled to contain the Eagles running back.
Some Perspective on the Washington Commanders’ Three Game Losing Streak – Hogs Haven
Sunday’s home loss to a reeling Dallas Cowboys team has sent shockwaves through the Commanders’ fanbase, as gauged by commentary on Hogs Haven. The reality of the ugly home loss has forced some of the most stalwart optimists to revise their hopeful expectations of a playoff finish in Year 1 of the franchise re-set. It is not my place to police people’s fandom. If people want to wallow in the agony of defeat and declare the Josh Harris rebuild a failure, that is their right as football fans. But I thought it would be helpful to those who might be on the verge of jumping to premature conclusions to put the events of the last three weeks in a broader perspective.
Jerry Jones says Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy could get contract extension – Blogging The Boys
Jerry Jones spoke on Tuesday morning on 105.3 The Fan. This is one of true factual statements you will read in the next two seconds. The second truth is that Jerry Jones said something outlandish that has people worked up that is probably just him stirring the pot. What is going on, you ask? Jones noted that head coach Mike McCarthy could possibly receive a contract extension. Cue the chaos.
Are the New York Giants No. 1 or No. 2 in 2025 NFL Draft order? – Big Blue View
It is all about how ‘Strength of Schedule’ is calculated into the draft order. Tankathon, the site we use each week to show where the Giants are in the current order, breaks ties based on Strength of Schedule for all 17 games on a team’s schedule. That means it includes the won-loss percentages of the teams remaining on the schedule over the final six games. NFL.com uses only “Year to date Strength of Schedule,” meaning ties are broken based strictly on games already played. So, if you are looking at those and wondering why there is a discrepancy this week or at any point between now and the end of the season that’s why. Either way, what matters is the order at the end after all of the games have been played. The Giants have a good shot at the No. 1 overall pick, whether you think they are tanking by playing Tommy DeVito at quarterback or not.
NFC Hierarchy/Obituary: Week 13 edition – PhillyVoice
11) 49ers (5-6): I watched a documentary about bears one time, and part of the focus was on the once-dominant alpha bear who was a d**k to all the other bears. Well, the alpha bear got old, the tables turned as the younger bears became stronger, and the not-so-alpha bear died on his own in the cold. The 49ers are that bear.
