New York Giants news for Tuesday

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

From Big Blue View

Other Giant observations

Will John Mara change his mind and clean house? | Pro Football Talk

The fact that the Giants play on Thursday makes it very hard to make a change this week. However, if the Giants fail to show up on Thursday against the Cowboys, Mara might have no choice but to alter his anticipation — either when the regular season ends or on Black Friday.

However it plays out, G.M. Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll have to be wondering how things will play out. And whether one or both will be out based on how the team plays on Thursday in Dallas.

NFL head coach hot seat rankings: Heat on Brian Daboll as Giants players sound off | FOX Sports

But over the last decade, Giants owner John Mara has proven to be a very reactionary owner. And the disaster he witnessed on Sunday is the kind of thing that leads to those reactions.

It’s not just that the Giants were lifeless in a 30-7 loss at home to the Bucs. It’s that the players basically rebelled in the locker room afterward. Almost every player who spoke sounded defeated, deflated and completely void of hope. And the few fans who bothered to show up surely felt the same way.

Biggest Winners, Losers From 2024 NFL Week 12 | The 33rd Team

The Giants were down 23-0 in the first half against Tampa Bay and offered zero resistance on defense. But the offense was even worse, managing just two first downs. They never crossed Tampa Bay’s 35-yard line, and this game was completely over by the third quarter.

Daboll was the NFL’s Coach of the Year in 2022 after leading the Giants to playoffs and a road win against the Vikings. But it seems like we are trending toward the Giants moving on from him after the 2024 season.Things are bad in New York and could get even worse with a Thanksgiving loss to the Dallas Cowboys. This once-historic franchise is in a really dark place, and the players quitting on their coach is a sign of just how bad things have gotten for the Giants.

Are the Giants less ‘clown show’ than the Jets? It’s getting harder to tell: Sando’s Pick Six | The Athletic

The Jets, meanwhile, give off “clown show” vibes even while having a (slightly) better record this season, and a similar record over the past dozen (Giants are 69-120-1, Jets are 66-124). What’s the difference between the Giants and Jets again?

“The difference is, the Giants have won championships and have done so most recently (2007, 2011), so they have the most credibility capital to burn,” a coach from another team said. “That is all. They are burning through it.”

Rex Ryan rips Joe Schoen

After falling to 2-9, Giants undergoing organizational shakeup now seems inevitable | SNY.tv

Does Mara trust Schoen to pick the right player? Is Daboll the right one to develop him? There would be no greater example of organizational malpractice than to have real concerns, run it back with the two out of pride and then blow it all up a year later.

Pride and fear of change is about the only thing in Daboll’s and Schoen’s corner right now. At this point, it doesn’t look like Mara has any other choice than to blow it all up once again.

Giants Facing Biggest Crossroads of All As Season Continues Circling the Drain | SI.com

Instead what we have now is a head coach in Brian Daboll who has his favorite catch phrases that he stretches to every legitimate question asked about why the team has fallen on such hard times, a favorite being, “We just have to continue to trust the process.”

What process? The one that all teams follow, which is to show up, be attentive in meetings, practice well, take care of your bodies, and translate all that to the field on Sunday?

Cannizzaro: It’s hard to imagine punching-bag Giants sinking any lower | New York Post

There are low points and then there are low points that leave you wondering if all hope is lost.

The 2024 Giants have no hope nor does it seem like the 2025 version does, either.

Evidence of that was painted all over their humiliating 30-7 home loss on Sunday to a Buccaneers team that entered the game in the throes of its own crisis, riding a four-game losing streak.

Notebook: Giants regroup before Thanksgiving game in Dallas | Giants.com

The Giants are averaging an NFL-low 14.8 points-per-game and are last with a 38.7 red zone touchdown percentage (12 of 31; Dallas is 31st at 42.9%). Following the game, Daboll cited red zone deficiencies as one of the reasons they faced an uphill climb yesterday. The Giants were one-for-three, though their last foray inside the 20-yard line occurred on the game’s last two plays. On the first possession of the third quarter, running back Tyrone Tracy lost a fumble on the Bucs’ 5-yard line.

Defensively, the Giants did not register a sack for the second time in three games, gave up 156 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, and couldn’t prevent Baker Mayfield from completing 24 of 30 passes.

Here’s who Giants could hire if they fire Brian Daboll | Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel, Jon Gruden, more | NJ.com

These are the top offensive coordinators to watch for next year’s hiring cycle: Joe Brady (Bills), Liam Coen (Buccaneers), Ben Johnson (Lions), Kliff Kingsbury (Commanders), Todd Monken (Ravens), Kellen Moore (Eagles), Matt Nagy (Chiefs), Drew Petzing (Cardinals), Dan Pitcher (Bengals), Zac Robinson (Falcons), Bobby Slowik (Texans), Arthur Smith (Steelers), Frank Smith (Dolphins), and Adam Stenavich (Packers).

2025 NFL Mock Draft: Three quarterbacks go in the top 10, including Shedeur Sanders to the New York Giants | PFF

2. New York Giants: QB Shedeur Sanders, Colorado. By the time the draft arrives, the New York Giants could end up with the top overall pick, especially after transitioning to Tommy DeVito at quarterback. Currently slated to pick second, they would have their choice of quarterbacks if Jacksonville holds the top spot and opts not to take one, barring a trade.

In Shedeur Sanders, the Giants would secure a prospect who has earned an elite 90.5 PFF passing grade this season, committing a turnover-worthy play on just 1.0% of his dropbacks.

32 players nominated for 2024 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award | NFL.com

New York Giants John Michael Schmitz is the team’s nominated for the 11th annual Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. The award is presented each year to an NFL player who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents and integrity in competition.

Updates: Richards hurt, Cooks for Thanksgiving? | DallasCowboys.com

Another one of the team’s offensive linemen has suffered injury, in a matchup wherein both Tyler Smith and Zack Martin were both ruled out with ankle injuries, and Asim Richards suffered a high ankle sprain in the contest that could cost the promising young tackle some time,

There is a chance, per Jones, that the Cowboys could see the return of Smith to the field against the Giants on Thanksgiving, however, as well as veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who has been working to return from injured reserve. The offense will likely be without Pro Bowl tight end Jake Ferguson though, as he remains in concussion protocol.

Dallas Cowboys Micah Parsons says no ‘tanking’ despite disappointing season | Blogging The Boys

All-Pro Micah Parsons let it be known that he isn’t thinking that way, nor will he let anyone else.

I’m not done yet. I don’t plan on tanking. If the higher-ups are looking for a draft pick, I hope that’s ruined, because we got a lot of football left to play. As long as I’m a part of this team, we’re always going to fight.

NFL Week 12 Recap: Dallas Cowboys 34, Washington Commanders 26 | PFF

Cowboys linebacker Eric Kendricks delivered a standout performance against Washington on Sunday afternoon. He recorded seven solo tackles and recovered a fumble while making an impact in coverage. Targeted five times, Kendricks allowed just four catches for a total of 28 yards and only one first down, adding two defensive stops in coverage. He also made three defensive stops across 23 run-defense snaps, capping off an impressive showing against the division rival.
