Something the team has never done before
In the National Football League, being asked to go on the road in three consecutive weeks is a rarity. Even more rare is winning all three of those games away from home, but the Minnesota Vikings pulled it off thanks to their 30-27 overtime win over Chicago on Sunday at Soldier Field. By doing so, they made franchise history.
According to the Vikings’ PR department, these past three games marked the eleventh time that the team has played games away from the Twin Cities in three consecutive weeks. This was the first time in franchise history that the Vikings were victorious in all three games in that scenario.
Sure, the Vikings didn’t blow anybody out during that three-game stretch, but they did enough to push their record to 9-2 on the year and keep the pressure on Detroit in the NFC North race. They’ve put themselves into a very good spot in the NFC playoff race as well, and they’re showing that they’re capable of winning pretty much anywhere. So far this season, they’re 4-1 in the comfy confines of U.S. Bank Stadium and 5-1 away from them.
Now, the Vikings are being rewarded in a way. . .they get to play three straight games in Minneapolis before they have to go back on the road to play Seattle in Week 16. With the NFC North title (and a potential #1 seed in the conference) still up for grabs, it will be nice for the Vikings to not have to have to worry about traveling and that sort of thing as they start their stretch run.
Congratulations to Kevin O’Connell and this Vikings team for putting themselves into the record books on Sunday by winning three consecutive road games for the first time in franchise history.
