‘Significant interest’ in ex-New York Giants QB Daniel Jones

Several playoff-caliber teams reportedly want to sign Jones

As we have been predicting, it appears there will be “significant interest” in former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, according to FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Jones will clear waivers on Monday. Schultz expects the Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, and Miami Dolphins to try and sign Jones, who requested his release on Friday after having been benched with the Giants at 2-8. He was officially waived on Saturday.

With the exception of the Vikings, those are all teams that we said on Saturday should pursue Jones.

The Vikings, with Sam Darnold starting and with first-round pick J.J. McCarthy returning next season after missing this year following knee surgery, are a bit of a surprise. Minnesota, though, fits the playoff-caliber team with a questionable backup quarterback situation scenario we expected Jones to pursue for the remainder of the season. The Vikings’ current backups for Darnold are Nick Mullens and Bretty Rypien.

Schultz said Jones is looking “not only for a chance to join a contending team, but also to develop in an offensive system where he can learn and grow.”

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said the Ravens and Vikings are the “likeliest teams” sign Jones, but “hardly the only ones” who will try.

A further benefit for a team signing Jones would be that he would qualify for the compensatory pick formula. Thus, if he signs with a team as a free agent and then leaves in free agency this offseason that team could receive a 2026 compensatory pick.

So, it sounds like the exiled former Giants quarterback is going to land quickly on his feet.
