Week 12 roster updates.

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced two roster moves ahead of their Week 12 road game against the Los Angeles Rams. An overview:

  • WR Britain Covey was activated from injured reserve to the active roster. His injury status was upgraded from questionable to no designation.
  • TE C.J. Uzomah was temporarily elevated from the practice squad.

Note: teams can temporarily promote practice squad players up to three times each in the regular season and an unlimited number of times in the postseason.

Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.

BRITAIN COVEY

The Eagles opened Covey’s 21-day practice window to return from IR earlier this week. He was a full participant in three practices leading up this week’s game before being ruled questionable to play on the final injury report. Covey is now returning to the field for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury in Week 3.

The extent of his role remains to be seen. One would figure he’ll take over at punt returner, allowing standout rookie nickel defender Cooper DeJean to solely focus on playing defense. Covey could also see snaps on offense, especially with DeVonta Smith ruled out. The last time Covey played a full game was in Week 2, when A.J. Brown wasn’t able to play. Covey finished that matchup with six (!) targets … which resulted in six catches for just 23 yards.

Covey is set to be one of five wide receivers active on Sunday. The others: Brown, Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson, and Ainias Smith.

Nick Sirianni had praise for Covey on Friday.

SIRIANNI: […] Can’t stress enough how good of a teammate Britain Covey is. And guys like being around him, so it’s nice having him back out there in the mix and interacting with his teammates on the practice field.

Q. When he is back, how do you make the decision about who the punt returner is? What factors determine that?

SIRIANNI: Obviously, we’ll always do what we feel is best for our football team. Coop has done a very, very good job returning the ball in Britain’s absence. Britain has done an excellent job, been one of the best guys in the league returning the punts when he was the punt returner. Good problem to have. We’ll factor in everything and make the decision that best suits our football team.

C.J. UZOMAH

The Eagles previously elevated Uzomah to be their third tight end behind Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra in Week 11. Uzomah played three offensive snaps and zero special teams snaps in that game. He’ll likely have a very limited role again this week, barring injuries to Goedert and/or Calcaterra.

Uzomah has one elevation remaining for the rest of the regular season.
