The name Carson Palmer is a loaded one when it comes to Cincinnati Bengals fans. He was once lauded as the savior of the city in the early 2000’s, until he very publicly threatened to retire if he wasn’t traded, which he eventually was. Now his name is whispered among Bengals fans, as saying it too loud would draw anger at its mere mention. He’s been a villain in Cincinnati since 2011.
But, maybe not anymore.
According to recent survey results, an amazing 81 percent of Bengals fans feel that Carson Palmer was right in demanding a trade.
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The Zac Taylor honeymoon period that descended upon the fanbase after the consecutive conference championship games and a Super Bowl berth has officially ended, and two years of losing football, including the current one in which Joe Burrow is putting up MVP numbers while the team flounders with a 4-7 record at the bye week.
It’s not impossible for the Bengals to find their way into the playoffs, but they’ll need to be close to perfect throughout the back end of the schedule. If they don’t turn things around, the 81 percent could jump up to near consensus among fans.
