Giants fans want to see their team draft a quarterback

The New York Giants are officially in the quarterback market.

When we initially polled the Big Blue View community regarding their preferred path forward at the quarterback position, Daniel Jones had only been benched following the Giants’ bye week.

Now, however, Daniel Jones has been released and is officially a former Giant. And as things stand, Tommy DeVito is the only quarterback under contract for the 2025 season.

It was widely expected that the Giants would begin their search for their next Franchise Quarterback this offseason, and now it’s known. But what route will they take?

We presented four options to the Big Blue View community:

  • Draft a top quarterback.
  • Sign a veteran starter.
  • Sign a bridge and develop a young “toolsy” quarterback.
  • Punt on quarterback and hope for better timing in the future.

An overwhelming majority, 54%, of the community responded that they want to see the Giants draft a top quarterback.

As things stand now, that top quarterback prospect would likely be either Cam Ward of Miami or Shedeur Sanders of Colorado.

Matt Miller of ESPN mocked Sanders to the Giants (along with a trade up from third overall to first overall) earlier this week. Much of the response in the comment section was in support of Ward being the pick over Sanders. On the flip side, we do know that Joe Schoen has personally scouted Colorado games and Giants’ scouts have attended their practices.

(Granted, we don’t know for sure whether the Giants are more interested in Sanders or WR/CB Travis Hunter. Or equally interested in both players)

There’s plenty of time for that to change and we could see players like Kurtis Rourke, Jaxson Dart, or Jalen Milroe play their way into the conversation as well. But right now they’re more in the category of “toolsy” quarterbacks who have high upside but need more development.

And on that note, it’s interesting that the other three options all have a similar level of support among fans — with a slight leaning toward developing a rookie.

If we combine both of those options, a full 72 percent of the fanbase wants to see the Giants draft a quarterback in 2025.

Interestingly, having clarity (if not a defined path forward) at the quarterback position has been something of a catharsis for the fanbase.

Fan confidence was at a near season low following the Giants’ loss to the Carolina Panthers in Munich. Now, 42% of fans are confident that the team is headed in the right direction.

That still isn’t a particularly high number and it’s hard to say that fans are enthusiastic about the state of the franchise. However, it’s a definite improvement over the 28 percent confidence just a week prior. This is also the most confident Giants fans have been since the Week 7 poll.

Fan confidence has been a roller coaster this year, and deservedly so. However, it is notable just how resilient Giants’ fans confidence has been as well. It hasn’t taken much for confidence to be buoyed this year, and even a competitive loss or movement at the quarterback position is enough to help fans feel like better days are ahead.

And perhaps they are. For the first time in a long time, we know for sure that change is coming to Big Blue.

For this week, however, only 12% of people are taking the Giants to cover against the Buccaneers per FanDuel.

The Buccaneers are definite favorites, getting 5.5 points on the road. They’re also likely getting wide receiver Mike Evans and cornerback Jamel Dean back from injury for the game. The Giants, on the other hand, have an element of surprise with DeVito at quarterback. We’ll just have to wait and see how all those moving pieces play out.
