The Linc – Saquon Barkley “deserves some MVP consideration”

The Linc – Saquon Barkley “deserves some MVP consideration”

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 11/15/24.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Dominant Defense Leads to Win – Iggles Blitz
Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense were once again a tricky group to evaluate. The final stats showed 26 points and 434 yards. Most teams would kill for that. The Eagles only had 10 points in the first three quarters and the offense bogged down in crucial situations. They were 1 for 3 in the red zone. They had some bad moments that hurt promising drives. Saquon Barkley had another monster game, going 26-146-2 on the ground and 2-52 as a receiver. His 23-yard TD run gave the Eagles some cushion at 19-10 and his 39-yard TD sprint put the game away. He deserves some MVP consideration.

Eagles vs. Commanders: 14 winners, 4 losers, 3 IDKs – BGN
Saquon’s unreal. He’s simply unstoppable. Where would the Eagles be without him this year? Against the Commanders: 26 carries for 146 yards (5.6 average) and two touchdowns. Two catches for 52 yards. Barkley’s logging 134.7 yards from scrimmage per game. The next closest player this season is Derrick Henry, who’s at 121.6 yards from scrimmage per game.

Commanders-Eagles on ‘Thursday Night Football’: What We Learned from Philadelphia’s 26-18 win – NFL.com
Saquon wore down Commanders after sluggish start. Jake Elliott missed his first two field-goal attempts – both wide left – and later missed an extra-point try that kept it a 12-10 score after the Eagles took the lead for the first time early in the fourth quarter. That’s seven points the Eagles left on the field. It felt like they had dominated the game after a Commanders’ TD drive, but the game was in doubt until late. Then Saquon Barkley delivered the second of three second-half haymakers, a 23-yard TD, with just under five minutes left to finally give the Eagles a two-score edge. Twenty seconds later – after a Jayden Daniels pick – Barkley broke off a 39-yard TD to give him 146 yards and two scores. The NFL’s leader in rushing yards and scrimmage yards blew past the 1,000-yard mark for the season in the first half and demolished the Commanders in the final few minutes. Barkley’s 43-yard catch-and-run also set up Jalen Hurts ’ TD sneak earlier in the fourth quarter. It was yet another slow start for the Eagles’ offense – with some special teams gaffes mixed in – but they eventually got it going, with big thanks to Barkley. What a terrific addition he’s been to this Eagles offense.

Roob’s Obs: Eagles ride monumental defensive performance to 6th straight win – NBCSP
4. Saquon Barkley is a beast. My goodness. After three quarters, I scribbled down Barkley’s stats – 20-for-69. That’s a modest 3.5 yards per carry. It just wasn’t his day. I was surprised the Eagles couldn’t get him going against a pretty weak Washington run defense – ranked 28th coming in. So then what happens? Barkley is the best end-of-game running back I’ve ever seen. He just gets stronger and stronger as the game goes on, and the Eagles’ offensive line just wears defensive lines down. Fourth quarter, Barkley runs six times for 77 yards and two long touchdowns – 23 and 39 yards 20 seconds apart after Blankenship’s interception. He finished 26-for-146 and another monster game. Not to mention 52 receiving yards for 198 scrimmage yards. Flat-out beast. Here’s what I love: Even when the running game isn’t working, Kellen Moore sticks with it. Keeps hammering it. We’ve seen our share of coaches around these parts who just gave up on the running game if it didn’t pay immediate dividends. In the end, with this back and this o-line, it’s just a matter of time. As a team, the Eagles finished with 39 carries for 229 more yards and three TDs. You can’t stop them.

Eagles pull away from Commanders in NFC East showdown – ESPN
The story of the Eagles’ season so far has been the incredible play of Barkley and the surprising performance of Vic Fangio’s defense. That continued in Thursday’s crucial divisional win over the Commanders. On a night when Hurts struggled to get going, the defense kept rookie quarterback sensation Jayden Daniels in check and came up with a key fourth-quarter interception courtesy of safety Reed Blankenship to help create a snowball effect in Philly’s favor. There were only modest expectations for the defense coming into the season, but the Eagles entered the week ranked second in yards allowed per game and tied for fifth in points allowed per game, figures that stand to hold up after Thursday. Barkley scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns in a span of 20 seconds to turn what was mostly a nail-biter into a comfortable victory for Philadelphia, which has now won six in a row. The Eagles’ chances of winning the division shot up from 63% to 81%, according to ESPN Analytics. They’ll enjoy their mini-bye before turning their attention to a Week 12 matchup against the Rams. It will be their last plane ride of the regular season.

Eagles fans chanted, “Thank you, Giants” for letting Saquon Barkley leave – PFT
Eagles fans cheered on Thursday night as Saquon Barkley racked up 146 rushing yards, 52 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Commanders. And then Eagles fans engaged in one of their favorite activities: Mocking the Giants. The fans in Philadelphia began a loud chant of, “Thank you, Giants” in a show of appreciation for the Giants letting Barkley test free agency, where he quickly signed with the Eagles. “That feels amazing. It feels amazing. Last year was a tough year for me mentally,” Barkley said on the postgame show as thousands of Eagles fans who remained in the stands after the game showered him with the “Thank you, Giants” chant.

3. Wash, rinse, repeat – Saquon Barkley is a special, special player. We see it every week and it becomes more and more amazing to witness: Saquon Barkley is as good as they come. More numbers: Barkley had 26 carries for 146 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including the 39-yarder that was just a cut and a sprint to the end zone to put the Eagles ahead 25-10, and a 23-yarder around the right corner that came earlier in the fourth quarter. Barkley now has 1,137 rushing yards this season, a wowwowow number and he’s averaging 5.8 yards per carry with eight rushing touchdowns. Oh, and Barkley had 2 receptions for 52 yards giving him a whopping 198 yards from scrimmage tonight. Barkley has 23 receptions for 210 yards and a pair of touchdowns as a receiver. “Having those guys (the offensive line) up front, it’s easy to get stronger because they’re doing a lot of the load and leaning on those guys and again just keep trusting them, keep trusting the scheme, and try and make the right read because they’re doing a hell of a job,” Barkley said.

7) The ‘Not Seeing It’ Award: Jalen Hurts. Hurts finished 18 of 28 for 221 yards, 0 TDs, and 0 INTs. He also ran 10 times for 39 yards and a TD. Hurts didn’t see a lot of open receivers in the first half, and his tendency to hold onto the ball for too long continued. He was better in the second half, but if the Eagles are going to make a deep playoff run, they’re going to need to get better quarterback play for 60 minutes.

NFL Week 11 Recap: Philadelphia Eagles 26, Washington Commanders 18 – PFF
PLAYER OF THE GAME. While the Eagles offense struggled for much of the game, tackle Jordan Mailata was outstanding throughout, grading strongly as both a run blocker and pass protector. In the run game, Mailata post an impressive 21.1% impact run rate. Additionally, he didn’t allow a single pressure across 34 pass-blocking snaps.

NFL playoff picture: Eagles make statement in NFC with Thursday night win over Commanders – SB Nation
The Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles kicked off Week 11 in the NFL. With just a half-game separating the two teams, it was bound to be an impactful game in the NFC East race but also the Wild Card. The Eagles put on a clinic, wearing down the Commanders on both sides of the ball before eventually pulling ahead for good. No matter the outcome, the Detroit Lions would have felt pressure on the one seed, as both teams came in with seven wins. Now the Minnesota Vikings (7-2) get some breathing room at the top of the Wild Card race and the Green Bay Packers (6-3) move ahead of Washington in the standings.

NFL Playoff Picture: Washington Commanders fail to take back the division lead; drop to 7th seed in NFC – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders are now 7-4, and on a two-game losing streak. They played the first game of Week 11, but tonight’s result drops them further down the playoff order. They went from 2nd to 6th in the NFC on Sunday, and today’s loss pushes them down past the Packers to the 7th seed in the conference. Green Bay has a game in Chicago against the Bears, and they seem likely to hold onto that 6th seed going into Week 12. The Washington Commanders now have a 10-day break before they return home to host the Dallas Cowboys.

Week 11 rooting guide for Cowboys fans – Blogging The Boys
Even after getting romped by the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday, the Cowboys didn’t get much of a bump in their 2025 NFL Draft order. Like Dallas, most of the other bad teams stayed bad as well. But there’s a solid chance for them to move into the top 10 after the Week 11 games; a small consolation in an otherwise dismal season. We know some of you don’t like thinking this way, but there’s no realistic scenario where the Cowboys claw their way back into contention for anything in 2024. Not without Dak Prescott, and not with Mike McCarthy losing control of the offense and locker room. This one’s for the pragmatists among us, looking for the only good that Dallas can still squeeze out of a lost campaign.

Ex-Giant offensive lineman healthy again, looking for work – Big Blue View
The Giants originally claimed Phillips off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens at the beginning of the 2022 season. Phillips played in 12 games that season, with five starts at right tackle in place of an injured Evan Neal. Why the Giants cut Phillips, who can play every offensive line position except center, before the 2023 season was never fully explained. Phillips landed on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad and the Giants, in dire need on the line last season after injuries struck the position, poaches him from Philly. He ended up playing in 10 games, starting nine at right tackle before suffering the torn quad.
