NY Giants news: Veteran center-guard Lucas Patrick signs with New York

Monday has been a busy news day for the New York Giants.

The latest news is that the Giants have signed journeyman interior offensive lineman Lucas Patrick to a one year contract, per Ian Rapoport.

Patrick, 32, has started 65 games (appearing in 113 total) since being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Green Bay Packers after the 2017 NFL Draft.

He’s a versatile and well-travelled player, with 28 starts at center, 19 starts at right guard, and 18 starts at left guard. He’s played at least 1,000 snaps at each of those positions, and has played for the Packers (2017-2021), Chicago Bears (2022-2023), New Orleans Saints (2024), and most recently the Cincinnati Bengals (2025).

The signing of Patrick will help to bolster the Giants depth at all three interior offensive line positions. It’s also possible that he could be a part of the competition at right guard, which likely involves Evan Neal, Joshua Ezeudu, and Aaron Stinnie.

Patrick could also be a replacement for veteran backup center-guard Austin Schlottmann, who signed with the Tennessee Titans.

We should be careful to read too much into the signing of a 32-year-old lineman in early April. However, it’s also possible that signing Patrick signals the Giants pivoting away from a reunion with Greg Van Roten. The two have a similar history and as well as similar profiles as veterans with guard-center versatility.

At the very least the Giants are making sure they have adequate depth to get through their offseason program and an experienced veteran, if necessary, for the regular season.
