Rams seven-round mock draft from CBS Sports with surprise in the first

CBS Sports and Josh Edwards released a full seven-round NFL mock draft for each team this week. Projected selections for the Los Angeles Rams include some surprises.

Who did Edwards give to the Rams? Let’s take a look and I’ll give a few of my own thoughts.

Round 1, pick 13

Spencer Fano, OT, Utah

From CBS Sports:

There is not a position Los Angeles has to address in the first round. The Rams could take their chances with Warren McClendon at right tackle, but Spencer Fano is too talented for them to feel as though they have to go down that path. They could also tap into the depth at receiver in this draft class on Day 2.

A lot of mock drafts pencil an offensive tackle for the Rams, and most fans assume that is because the NFL media is forgetting about last year’s emergence of RT Warren McClendon. McClendon could be in line for a new contract to remain in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future. Still, Fano would provide immediate insurance and has unique position flexibility to potentially play all five spots along the offensive line including center. The Rams probably need a new center in 2027 to replace Coleman Shelton, and Fano is probably better from day one.

Is this a luxury pick and not really suited to the Rams’ “all in” approach? Probably.

Round 2, pick 61

Antonio Williams, WR, Clemson

Williams isn’t a player that you often hear discussed in a draft class with a lot of different styles to fall in love with. He’s listed at 5-11, 187 lbs. and runs a 4.41 40-yard dash. Williams was productive on a consistent basis at the college level and has experience as a punt returner, which could be useful for the Rams as they recommit to special teams.

Round 3, pick 93

Bryce Boettcher, LB, Oregon

We know the Rams are sniffing around on the linebacker class based on their reported top 30 visits. Boettcher plays football with a brand of physicality, though his physical traits aren’t anything to fall in love with. He’s a below average caliber of athlete and will likely make his first NFL impact on special teams. LA doesn’t necessarily prioritize athletic traits at the linebacker position. Dipping into the pool in the third round would mark the Rams’ first such pick since selecting Ernest Jones.

Round 6, pick 207

Beau Stephens, iOL, Iowa

Round 7, pick 232

Devan Boykin, S, Indiana

Round 7, pick 251

Febechi Nwaiwu, iOL, Oklahoma

Round 7, pick 252

Chip Trayanum, RB, Toledo
