With April in the D inching closer and closer, it feels like a good time to discuss what the best month of the sports calendar is. Soon, we will have a lot going on in the world of sports. March Madness will be in full swing, the Detroit Tigers will be kicking off a season with more anticipation than any year in recent memory, and the Detroit Red Wings will be working to secure their first playoff berth since the 2016 season. And while I am not a golf person (yet), the Masters start on April 9.
If you live in Michigan or anywhere in the Midwest, what more could you ask for in the month of April? The sun is finally coming out after a long, cold winter, and you have a bevy of choices at your disposal. With that said, maybe you prefer one of the summer months. Baseball is in full swing by June, and the NBA playoffs typically culminate around the middle of the month.
On the other end of the spectrum, some would say that the fall months are unmatched. At that point, the NBA season is beginning, the NFL’s regular season is underway, as well as the NHL.
What is your favorite sports month?
My answer: If we are boiling it down to one month, I am going with October. Fall is the best season (it’s true), and no matter what you like—there is something for you. The MLB has the World Series, the NFL and college football are in full swing—as are basketball and hockey—October has it all. What’s better than firing up the smoker on an early Saturday morning, knowing that you have a full weekend of football ahead of you? Not much.
