Future Hall of Famer Von Miller helped put the Los Angeles Rams over the top in 2021. With the Rams back in contention and Miller on the open market, is it worth reuniting with him this offseason?
Miller was one of the few bright spots on the 5-12 Commanders during the 2025 campaign. In 17 games with Washington, the veteran defender led the team with 9.0 sacks while adding 26 combined tackles. He managed to have his most productive seasons in years at age 35.
Crazy to think that Miller is still posting sacks after his NFL career seemed to be on the decline during his time in Buffalo.
Near the end of the 2023 season, I wrote that the Rams were smart for opting against re-signing Miller to a long-term deal following the Super Bowl. I even included this sentiment that still holds up:
“LA is in a better spot with younger contributors on defense who will be part of the foundation for years to come. Miller was never going to be more than a rental in Hollywood as teams are always willing to take a chance on a player with his resume, regardless of age. The Bills took that gamble and lost.”
Miller did nothing to hurt the Rams when he bolted for Buffalo. He was ring-chasing and secured a monster deal that was unprecedented at his age. You would be lying if you told me you wouldn’t do the same. No one blamed the guy. Plus, he left the organization on excellent terms, therefore making a reunion possible nearly five seasons later.
His age should give any team pause, as he turns 36 today (Happy Birthday Von!). However, absolutely no smart team should expect him to be the sack master he was in his prime. Miller would be a role player for a contender like L.A. and could serve as a mentor to the young pass rushers. Additionally, his days of receiving sizable contracts are over — or should be — making him a cheap pick up. Washington, for example, signed Miller to a one-year, $6.1 million deal last offseason, so the Rams could easily get him on a one- to-two-year deal.
At this stage of his career, Miller is still ring-chasing, and it burned him last season after he signed with a Commanders squad that seemed on the upswing. Adding the two-time Super Bowl champ would be another luxury piece for the Rams, so a reunion is entirely possible. If both sides are interested in running it back for a chance at another Lombardi Trophy, who says no?
