One of the many issues the Cincinnati Bengals faced this offseason was going to be possibly having to fill their backup quarterback spot.
Last season, Jake Browning was benched after a bad stretch of games. Cincinnati opted to trade for Joe Flacco during the season from the Cleveland Browns after being benched himself.
While Flacco only ended up winning one game during his stretch as the starter prior to Joe Burrow’s return, it was clear it was not his or the offense’s fault in most cases. He had 13 passing touchdowns to just four interceptions over his six games.
His contract was up following the season, and he stated he would like to look for an opportunity to start, but returning to the Bengals was also appealing. Well, turns out it ended up being the most appealing option as he returns on a 1-year deal worth up to $9 million.
The team also signed quarterback Josh Johnson this offseason, but Flacco is clearly the preferred insurance policy for Burrow. He was able to keep the Ferrari Bengals offense humming rather than running it off the road.
