Schefter | Miami Dolphins RB De’Von Achane set to ‘cash in’ this offseason

Miami Dolphins star running back De’Von Achane is about to get #paid.

The former third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft has quickly become one of the league’s top running backs, not only for his game-changing ability as a rusher, but also for what he can do in the passing game.

In three seasons with the Dolphins, Achane has started 36 games, carrying the ball 544 times for 3,057 yards and 22 touchdowns. Add in his 172 receptions for 1277 yards and 13 touchdowns, and you can see why the 24-year-old running back is expected to cash in — especially when his best football is still ahead.

Unfortunately for Miami and new General Manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, Achane isn’t the only star running back expected to get paid this offseason.

Yesterday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reminded the world that running backs do, in fact, matter, and his belief after talking with those in league circles is that three of the NFL’s top backs will get paid this offseason — one of them being our sweet prince, Achane.

Here’s what Schefter said on Tuesday afternoon:::

NFL Insider Adam Schefter believes De’Von Achane will be one of three STAR running backs to get paid this offseason

“Take a look at the running backs right now. Bijan Robinson is going to cash in. Jahymr Gibbs is going to cash in. Devon Achane is going to cash in. There are some huge running back deals that get done at some point this offseason. So whereas we’ve already seen one big wide receiver deal, get ready for the parade of running backs. Because that’s what is coming next…..when you can catch like Bijan, Jahmyr, and De’Von Achane, you make yourself more valuable.”

Last season, Achane carried the ball a career high 238 times for 1,350 yards and 8 touchdowns. He averaged an insane 5.7 yards per carry, which was the best in the NFL in 2025. Add in the 67 receptions for 488 yards and 4 touchdowns, and there is no debate that Achane deserves to get paid.

The only uncertainty isn’t necessarily when he gets paid, but who will pay Achane.

Yes, it was just last week that Schefter mentioned Achane’s availability and that the Dolphins have told teams he was unavailable — but we know the truth! This is the NFL, and there are only a few truly untouchable players. Does Achane fall into that category?

Should the Miami Dolphins trade De’Von Achane?

As of typing this, Spotrac is projecting Achane to receive around $12-13M per season with a deal falling around 3 years, $37M. Is Achane worth that? Absolutely. The question is whether or not a team like the Dolphins — who are clearly rebuilding and currently in a state of cap hell — can pay a running back that type of money.

Personally, I am a big fan of De’Von Achane. Pre-draft, I referred to him as Alakazam ‘because he looked like he was teleporting all over the field,’ and in typical fashion, I drafted him in a bunch of fantasy leagues. My love for football stemmed from playing Madden and 2K — I’m a self-proclaimed fantasy gawd — so these skill position players mean something to me — damnit!

He’s our Christian McCaffrey.

He’s our Jahmyr Gibbs and Bijan Robinson.

What does that mean exactly — I really don’t know.

Is it best for the Dolphins to trade him away now, with the running back market about to explode?

Will a team even be willing to offer Sully and the Dolphins what they’re asking for?

Certainly, a team picking late in the draft would rather have Achane than an unproven rookie — could the Seahawks or Jaguars pry him away from Miami Gardens?

Time will certainly tell.

But for now, Achane remains one of Miami’s top playmakers, and regardless of whether it’s in Miami or elsewhere, he’s about to get paid.

And no one deserves it more than Himmothy himself, De’Von Achane.

What are your thoughts on De’Von Achane? Should Miami pay its star running back or ship him away to greener pastures for an offer too good to be true? Let us know in the comments section below!
