The 2026 NFL regular season schedule will reportedly open on Wednesday, September 9, with the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks likely hosting. The New York Giants are one of the Seahawks’ home opponents this year, and a matchup between those clubs would be enticing with the Giants now under the stewardship of John Harbaugh and Seattle coached by his former defensive coordinator, Mike Macdonald.
The NFL is planning on officially releasing its 2026 regular season schedule on May 13, but some games, such as the season opener, will likely be leaked earlier.

Ralph Vacchiano: They have real needs on the offensive line, at cornerback and at receiver as well. So in the next month, I may waffle from Styles to Ohio State WR Carnell Tate to Miami tackle Francis Mauigoa to LSU CB Mansoor Delane. What about Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love, you ask? (I know you didn’t ask. Just play along, OK?) Those rumors are strong, but I am not convinced that Harbaugh would take a running back that high. I’m also 1,000 percent sure GM Joe Schoen wouldn’t. So if they do, it’s a pretty clear signal that Schoen has no more power in the organization at all.

The Giants will look to be physical, aggressive and fundamentally sound from a talented front to a secondary that thrives on that pressure created, not without a significant presence in the middle to aid the quest to stop the run.
DJ Reader is still swimming in the free agency pool, waiting for the right suitor to fish him out. He could be a fine addition to a Giants team that has been searching for more productivity at that position.
The 6-foot-3, 330-pounder out of Clemson has played 10 NFL seasons and most recently lined up in the trenches for the Detroit Lions. Reader posted 20 total pressures and 15 stops last season, per Pro Football Focus. The former fifth-rounder did not register a sack, but he did have three in the previous campaign. He can stabilize a defensive line that is one or two tweaks away from being a true menace. A physical, disciplined DT who can close rushing lanes is crucial.
