On Thursday, the Detroit Lions announced that they have re-signed veteran defensive tackle Myles Adams. Contract terms were not made immediately available by the team.
Adams, 28, will be entering his sixth year in the NFL after spending his first 3.5 years with the Seattle Seahawks. Over that course, he appeared in 26 games and started one, but just played in 346 total snaps.
In 2024, the Lions signed Adams from the Seahawks’ practice squad amidst growing injuries to Detroit’s defense. Adams would make four game appearances down the stretch for the Lions, playing 46 defensive snaps and tallying four tackles, 1.0 sack and two QB hits.
Last year, Adams remained on the team, but after failing to make the 53-man roster, he spent the entire season on Detroit’s practice squad without being promoted to a gameday roster.
Listed by the Lions at 6-foot-2, 299 pounds, Adams is a bit of a tweener between defensive tackle and edge defender. As the Lions’ roster currently stands, he’s likely to be a reserve spot with the likes of Levi Onwuzurike, Mekhi Wingo, and Tyler Lacy.
Detroit still has a few more needs on the defensive line, though. Edge remains a thin position on the team, even after signing D.J. Wonnum in free agency. Additionally, with DJ Reader unsigned and Roy Lopez signing with the Cardinals in free agency, the Lions could use more reserve nose tackle help beyond Tyleik Williams and (occasionally) Alim McNeill.
