According to ESPN’s Schefter, Indianapolis Colts veteran free agent Samson Ebukam is signing with the Atlanta Falcons, per his representation:
The 30-year-old veteran defensive end is fresh off a 2025 campaign in which he had 33 tackles (22 solo), 5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, 23 QB pressures, and a fumble recovery during 14 games (1 start). Per PFF (subscription), Ebukam received a +64.1 overall grade, which was ranked 68th highest among 115 qualifying defensive ends.
Having suffered a season-ending torn Achilles during 2024 training camp, Ebukam has yet to regain his prior rock solid form from 2023, when in his debut campaign with the Colts, he recorded 9.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles as a high motor pass rusher off the edge—in addition to being a stout run defender.
As longtime Colts general manager Chris Ballard proclaimed that the Colts needed to get younger and faster in their front seven, and it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Ebukam wouldn’t be back. In fact, the Colts may have already inked former Tennessee Titans veteran free agent edge Arden Key to be his rotational replacement.
That being said, it’s a shame that the devastating Achilles injury happened to Ebukam, because he was a really good contributor for the Colts as both a pass rusher and in pass defense, but hasn’t rediscovered his prior explosiveness off the edge—and entering his 10th NFL season, it’s realistically possible he may never.
However, always bringing intensity, energy, and toughness, Colts fans wish him well in Atlanta!
