Late last week, there seemed to be a sense that an A.J. Brown trade was going to go down.
It didn’t.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean the wide receiver is staying in Philadelphia to play for the Eagles this season.
The latest buzz on the Brown trade front comes from who else but NFL insider Dianna Russini:
A.J. Brown trade discussions are not dead.
Last week, I was told the Rams discussed trading for Eagles WR A.J. Brown before dealing for CB Trent McDuffie.
Dialogue slowed, but Los Angeles continues to monitor the status of the three-time Pro Bowler with interest. We’ll see where both parties go from here.
The Eagles trading Brown to one of their biggest competitors in the same conference doesn’t seem like a great idea. Especially when it means allowing LA to assemble a receiving corps of Brown, Puka Nacua, and Davante Adams. But if the return is strong enough, Howie Roseman might pull the trigger.
The Rams hold the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft due to the Atlanta Falcons trading up to get James Pearce last year (yikes). They also have their second-round pick at No. 61 overall in addition to owning their first two selections in the 2027 NFL Draft.
It’s unclear what the Rams would offer for Brown. But the Eagles’ leverage is increased if multiple teams are interested in their wide receiver.
On that note, the New England Patriots are still said to be interested in trading for Brown despite signing Romeo Doubs in free agency. Brian Baldinger also told DNVR that the Eagles and Denver Broncos have had “mutual interest” in a trade.
The financial ramifications of a Brown trade are significant but not prohibitive to the point where the Eagles logistically cannot execute the deal. For many, it’s not fun to think about Brown leaving the Birds. They’re a worse team without him. Even so, it sounds like it’s probably going to happen at some point in time.
If all these rumors were truly BS and the Eagles and Brown wanted to shut them down, they could. But they haven’t.
