The Colts offseason has predominantly revolved around in-house moves, with Daniel Jones’ tag then new contract, Alec Pierce’s new deal, Bernhard Raimann’s restructure for 2026 cap relief, and the Michael Pittman Jr. trade for cap savings being at the forefront.
The only outside signing the Colts made prior to the Wednesday, March 11th league new year date was former Titans Defensive End Arden Key on a 2 year, $20 million deal. The Colts did pursue Trey Hendrickson and were close to a deal for the Bengals star pass rusher, but the Maxx Crosby trade debacle ended with the Ravens back on the market for a pass rusher and eager to outbid everyone to give the 31 year old coming off a core muscle injury a 4 year deal.
The Colts on Wednesday afternoon announced that they were signing Micheal Clemons as a new defensive end to the rotation.
Clemons is a former 2022 4th Round pick for the Jets started 24 games in his 4 year career with his original team, 23 of those in the last 2 years (all 17 of 2024). Over the last 2 season he has racked up:
- 45 Pressures (22 in 2025, 23 in 2024)
- 6.85% Pressure Rate (6.8% in 2025, 6.9% in 2024)
- 9 QB Hits
- 5.5 Sacks (4.5 in 2024)
- 56 Tackles
- 28 Run Stops
- 13 Tackles for Loss
His deal will cost the Colts just $5.83 million per year, ranking 51st among NFL Edge Defenders at the time of signing; as well as cost the Colts a 2027 Compensatory 7th Round pick in the Comp pick formula.
He projects to be an early down edge setter in the run as a rotational defensive lineman. His 6’5 and 270 lb frame is well suited for these duties.
Expect the Colts to continue to address the Defensive End position with Key and Clemons both projecting as rotational backups. The Colts are still looking to add a starting Defensive End opposite of Laiatu Latu, likely through either Free Agency or via trade.
