The Detroit Lions are bringing back some valuable secondary depth. As first reported by Ian Rapoport, the Lions are re-signing veteran corner Rock Ya-Sin. The deal is reportedly for one year and worth $4 million.
Last year, the Lions signed Ya-Sin to a veteran minimum deal ($1.17 million) contract, and the 29-year-old cornerback outplayed that deal. He would end up playing in all 17 games, and because Detroit suffered so many injuries at the cornerback position, Ya-Sin started six games.
His play was very sound in those games as a replacement. In total, he tallied 47 tackles, nine passes defended (a career high), and a pair of quarterback hits. PFF gave him an above-average coverage grade of 67.1. Per PFF, he allowed just a 76.6 passer rating when targeted (26 completions on 49 targets for 276 yards and one touchdown).
Prior to his time with the Lions, Ya-Sin spent three seasons with the Colts, and one season with the Raiders, Ravens, and 49ers each. This represents the first time since 2022 that Ya-Sin will play for the same team in consecutive years.
He’ll help round out a cornerback room that is still figuring out its depth. The Lions lost Amik Robertson to free agency this offseason, and we’re still waiting to see if anything will come of Terrion Arnold’s legal situation. Other rostered cornerbacks for the Lions in 2026 include D.J. Reed, Ennis Rakestraw, Khalil Dorsey, and Nick Whiteside.
