The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with New York Giants cornerback Cor’Dale Flott, per Mike Garafolo
Flott has become the third member of the Giants’ 2022 draft class to follow Brian Daboll to the Titans, joining Wan’Dale Robinson and Daniel Bellinger.
The Giants were reportedly all set to re-sign Flott, however the Titans made a last-minute push to woo the 24-year old corner. Conor Hughes of SNY reports that the Titans laid out their entire defensive plan, including how he would be used.
The loss of Flott creates a significant question mark for the Giants across from Paulson Adebo. It was believed that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Jamel Dean could be an option if the Giants lost Flott, however he agreed to terms with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Giants do still have 2023 first round CB Deonte Banks in the fold. Considering the Giants were (reportedly) targeting the big, physical Dean as a back-up plan, the 6-foot, 197 pound corner may be a good fit for their revamped defensive scheme.
The Giants wanted Dennard Wilson to replace Wink Martindale after the messy divorce between he and Brian Daboll, which may signal that Wilson wants to call a similar defense. Additionally, the Giants hired former Denver Broncos cornerbacks coach Addison Lynch to coach their corners in 2026. The Broncos called a very high rate of press coverage last year, which has always been Banks’ strength.
It’s still no sure thing that Banks can, or will, replace Flott, so the Giants still have work to do in filling the hole left by the 2022 3rd round pick.
