The 2026 NFL free agency period is underway, with players starting to move to new teams. The negotiating period – commonly called the “legal tampering period” – begins on Monday at 12 p.m. Eastern and continues through 3:59 p.m. on Wednesday. The new league year begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, opening the free agency signing period – and making official all the agreements made earlier in the week.
During the negotiating period, the league allows a soft open to free agency, during which teams can contact agents and begin negotiations with soon-to-be free agents. New for this season, teams are allowed to have one-hour phone or video conversations with up to five players, including their agent. Contracts may not be executed during the two days. Still, there will be plenty of rumors and reports of players agreeing to deals, with the contract officially signed sometime after the start of the new league year.
Throughout the week – and into the next few months – we will continue to keep up with the latest Miami Dolphins news, updates, rumors, and signings right here.

Today,
Falcons making strong push for Tua Tagovailoa

(Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images) Getty ImagesThat did not take long. The Miami Dolphins on Monday announced they would be releasing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa when the new league year begins on Wednesday. Just a few hours later, at it looks like the former Pro Bowl quarterback may already have a landing spot. According to multiple reports, including from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Atlanta Falcons are making a “strong early push” to bring in Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa was the fifth-overall pick by the Dolphins in 2020. Since joining Miami, he has been selected to one Pro Bowl and has had seasons in which he led the league in major passing categories. In 2023, he led the league in passing yards and in 2024, he had the league’s best passer rating.
Jason Sanders among latest to be released by Dolphins

(Photo by Rich Storry/Getty Images) Getty ImagesThe Miami Dolphins have released kicker Jason Sanders according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, ending his tenure with the Dolphins after eight seasons. Sanders was the starting kicker for the Dolphins in seven of those seasons, having missed all of the 2025 season to a hip injury.
As the Dolphins continue to purge their roster, Sanders was the latest veteran to pack his bags. His cap number for 2026 was set to be around $4.5 million, according to Over The Cap. After a stellar 2020 season in which Sanders made 36 of 39 field goal attempts and was voted to the NFL’s All-Pro team, Sanders signed a five-year extension before the 2021 season. That contract was set to expire after the 2026 season, but the Dolphins are pulling the trigger early.
Dolphins release fullback Alec Ingold

(Photo by Michael Owens/Getty Images) Getty ImagesThe Miami Dolphins are releasing fullback Alec Ingold, as per Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network. According to the report, both parties held “discussions” about a new deal, but ultimately were not able to come to an agreement.
Ingold signed a 3-year, $12.2 million extension with the Dolphins in 2023 that kept him under contract through the 2026 season. At the time, Ingold was the highest-paid fullback in the league, a position crucial to former head coach Mike McDaniel’s offense. He still holds that title as of today, with Kyle Juszcyzk of the San Francisco 49ers just behind him at $3.75 million APY, to Ingold’s $4 million.
Dolphins, Vikings linked to veteran QB Kyler Murray

For quite some time, Miami has been rumored to be interested in Green Bay Packers free-agent QB Malik Willis. We even heard Jimmy Garoppolo may be an option. Now, the team is linked to another free agent veteran QB — only this one may come at a much more reasonable price tag.
Miami Dolphins re-sign OLB Cameron Goode

(Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images) Getty ImagesGeneral manager Jon Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley are ready to embark on their first NFL free agency as a tandem, but not before they continue to make last-minute decisions on the team’s current roster and impending free agents.
The Miami Dolphins made their latest signing earlier today, re-signing a player fans have watched develop – for better or worse – over the last three seasons in Miami. According to the team’s official site, the Dolphins have re-signed outside linebacker Cameron Goode.
Dolphins interested in Jimmy Garoppolo if other quarterback options fall through

(Photo by David Jensen/Getty Images) Getty ImagesWith former number five overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft — quarterback Tua Tagovailoa — most likely leaving Miami in the very near future, the Dolphins are in the market for new passers this offseason. One option to bring into the fold is former Super Bowl quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo — most recently of the Los Angeles Rams.
Dolphins update Liam Eichenberg, Ethan Bonner status for 2026

HOUSTON, TX – DECEMBER 15: Liam Eichenberg #74 of the Miami Dolphins runs out of the tunnel prior to an NFL football game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium on December 15, 2024 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images) Getty ImagesThe Miami Dolphins announced a pair of roster moves on Monday, continuing their preparations for the 2026 offseason. The team announced the tendering of cornerback Ethan Bonner, who was set to be an exclusive rights free agent, bringing the 2023 undrafted free agent signing for a fourth season in Miami. They also announced the release of offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg.
Bonner appeared in 14 games for Miami this year, primarily playing special teams. He recorded 15 tackles on defense, along with two passes defensed and an interception. He provides depth at cornerback for the Dolphins and could challenge for a starting role as he continues to grow in the NFL.
FOWLER | Miami Dolphins ‘definitely in’ on free agent QB Malik Willis

Yes, that last part can certainly be debated.
I drove the family from Pennsylvania to Orlando and back again, and in the process, didn’t miss too much on the NFL front.
Dolphins to work on extensions for key players

(Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images) Getty ImagesThe Miami Dolphins are going to look much different under the leadership of new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and new head coach Jeff Hafley in 2026 and beyond. However, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN, the organization plans to keep four core players in the team’s plans for many years to come.
Dolphins under salary cap after flurry of cuts

(Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images) Getty ImagesIt was a black Monday in Miami Gardens for multiple veterans within the Miami Dolphins organization. The team — under the new leadership team of general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley — axed pass rusher Bradley Chubb, wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and offensive guard James Daniels.
Dolphins continue cap reset with Westbook-Ikhine

(Photo by Frank Jansky/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesThe day after the regular season ends in the NFL is known as “Black Monday” because that is the day teams start making coaching changes. Monday, February 16, has become a pseudo-Black Monday for veteran Miami Dolphins players. The team, in need of resetting their salary cap after several years of big spending, made several roster moves Monday morning, releasing veteran players for salary cap savings heading into 2026.
The first reported release was linebacker Bradley Chubb, who likely provides around $7 million in salary cap savings. For a team who was projected to be around $17 million over the cap, that is a huge move to get back to within the league’s standards.
Dolphins release guard James Daniels, continue to shed roster

(Photo by Michele Eve Sandberg/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesThe Miami Dolphins are releasing guard James Daniels, as per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Daniels’ release is the latest in a flurry of news this morning, as the team also released edge rusher Bradley Chubb and star receiver Tyreek Hill.
The Dolphins signed Daniels this offseason to a 3-year, $24 million contract. The former Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears guard had 84 career starts at LG, RG, and C before joining the Dolphins. However, he suffered a season-ending pectoral injury in Week 1 this season, and never returned to the field. It’s worth nothing that he was coming off an Achilles injury in the season prior, a likely factor in the Dolphins being able to afford a veteran guard like Daniels.
Dolphins release Tyreek Hill as cap cuts continue

MIAMI GARDENS, FL – SEPTEMBER 29: Tyreek Hill#10 of the Miami Dolphins runs a route during an NFL football game against the New York Jets at Hard Rock Stadium on September 29, 2025 in Miami Gardens, Florida. (Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images) Getty ImagesMonday morning started with the news the Miami Dolphins were releasing linebacker Bradley Chubb, a move that brings with it $7.3 million in salary cap savings for 2026. A team that is in desperate need of creating cap space, the move did not come as a surprise as Miami begins the work of resetting the franchise. New general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has to get the Dolphins’ salary cap under control, and the Chubb move is the first of what should be several releases or extensions made to get Miami back to financial responsibility.
The second move did not take long to follow. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Dolphins are also releasing eight-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The 10-year veteran spent four years with the Dolphins following six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He caught 340 passes with the Dolphins, tallying 4,733 yards and 27 touchdowns. He led the league in receiving yards with 1,799 in 2023, also leading the league with 13 touchdown receptions that season.
