The Los Angeles Rams have achieved three consecutive playoff trips under Sean McVay since 2023. L.A. has a chance to make it four straight in 2026, a feat not even the Greatest Show on Turf-era Rams could muster.
The last time the Rams made four straight playoff appearances came in 1983-86, a streak that came to an end in the 1986 Wild Card Round against Washington. Washington made it all the way to the NFC Championship that year, only to get shut out by the rival Giants, the eventual Super Bowl champs.
In total, the Rams have reached the postseason in four consecutive years three times in their history. That includes a franchise-record eight-season stretch which featured the team’s first appearance in the big game.
| Years | Playoff Record | Championship (pre-Super Bowl era)/Super Bowl Appearances |
| 1949-52 | 2-3 | 3 NFL Championship appearances (won 1951 championship 24-17 over Browns) |
| 1973-80 | 6-8 | 1 Super Bowl appearance (lost 1980 SB 31-19 to Steelers) |
| 1983-86 | 2-4 | N/A |
The GSOT and its last remnants had a chance at six straight appearances, but missed the playoffs in 2002 after losing the Super Bowl to New England. During that season, the Greatest Show on Turf was on its last legs. Kurt Warner had missed a large chunk of the season, and Marshall Faulk was limited to just 10 games. St. Louis went 7-9 before finishing 12-4 the following year, their last winning season until 2017.
Under McVay, the Rams have had their closest chance at tying or even surpassing the franchise-playoff streak. L.A. missed the playoffs in 2019 and in 2022. The disastrous 2022 team was likely never as good as fans expected entering the year, yet they might’ve had an opportunity at a winning record had everyone stayed healthy.
Needless to say, the Rams are on the verge of tying a franchise mark this upcoming season. Since 2023, the team has gone 3-3 in the playoffs and is coming off a run to the NFC Championship. The GSOT collapsed down the stretch and were unable to tie team history at their peak. Perhaps McVay’s Rams have enough magic in them to do what that iconic team couldn’t in 2026.
