The New York Giants and running back Devin Singletary have agreed to a restructured contract, per a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
The decision to keep Singletary, 28, comes as a surprise, as the veteran running back was thought to be an obvious cut candidate as the Giants work to create salary cap room in advance of the 2026 NFL free agency period.
Singletary was scheduled to carry a $6.5 million cap hit in 2026, including a $5 million base salary. It will be interesting to see how the Giants have reduced those numbers.
However, Schultz reports that the two sides didn’t want to part ways and that there seems to be a good relationship between Singletary and John Harbaugh.
Singletary lost his starting job twice over the last two years, first to Tyrone Tracy in 2024, and then to Cam Skattebo in 2025. And while Singletary is likely the Giants’ 3rd back, he’s a tough and versatile runner who can carry the ball between the tackles, contribute in the passing game, and execute the Giants’ full offensive playbook. He stepped up admirably after Skattebo was injured and was a real contributor to a running game that finished 5th in the NFL in yards and EPA, as well as 4th in touchdowns scored.
The Giants have been heavily rumored to be interested in top running backs this year, reportedly doing work on top players. There have been rumors that the team is interested in veteran Kenneth Walker as well as top running back prospect Jeremiyah Love.
The decision to keep Singletary might not kill those rumors completely, but the team seems to be leaning toward a “running back by committee” approach. The move also coincides with the report from NFL Insider Ian Rapoport that the Giants’ decision makers are more interested in “tinkering” with the roster than undergoing a full overhaul.
The Giants already released linebacker Bobby Okereke and are sure to be busy throughout the weekend, so stay with Big Blue View for more information as we get it.
