After NY Giants Bobby Okereke release, who will be next out the door?

The release of linebacker Bobby Okereke on Tuesday night by the New York Giants promises to be the first of several cuts as the Giants look to both create salary cap space and restructure the roster to head coach John Harbaugh’s liking.

Let’s look at who might be out the door next.

Obvious cuts

PK Graham Gano — Cap savings: $4.5M | Dead money: $1.25M

OT James Hudson — Cap savings: $5.38M | Dead money: $2.305M

RB Devin Singletary — Cap savings: $5.25M | Dead money: $1.25M

After three straight injury-riddled seasons, I don’t think there is any chance Harbaugh signs on for the Graham Gano Experience. The lack of discipline Hudson showed last season makes him a clear cut candidate. Singletary makes too much money to be RB3.

Potential cuts

G Jon Runyan Jr. — Cap savings: $9.25M | Dead money: $2.5M

WR Jalin Hyatt — Cap savings: $1.52M | Dead money: $272,785

P Jamie Gillan — Cap savings: $2.85M | Dead money: $666,668

LB Chris Board — Cap savings: $2.1M | Dead money: $1.25M

DT Roy Robertson-Harris — Cap savings: $3.35M | Dead money: $2.4M

Releasing Runyan would be the biggest savings. How much restructuring of the offensive line does Harbaugh want?

The one player not on this list is cornerback Deonte Banks. The Giants may move on from the 2023 first-round pick, but it won’t be for cap purposes. The Giants would incur a $4.32 million cap hit with no cap savings if they cut Banks.
