With just over a week until the start of free agency, and after the NFL Combine helped give teams some clarity on their roster building approach, Monday has been busy. Among the many moves around the league, the Commanders reportedly let veteran CB Marshon Lattimore know that they intend to release him and save $18.5 million in cap space this offseason.
Considering the Eagles have Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean on rookie contracts for the next two years, bringing in a veteran player would be a good move this offseason. GM Howie Roseman lauded Adoree’ Jackson’s performance last season and noted that the CB had improved as the year went on, but stopped short of saying he planned to re-sign the cornerback. Roseman acknowledged that DeJean could move outside to fill the need at CB2, but explained that the All-Pro is elite at the nickel position and they’d prefer to keep him there.
As for Lattimore, he’s a nine-year veteran, earning four Pro Bowls all within his first five years in the league, and played some incredible football for the Saints early in his career. He was traded to the Commanders in 2024, and helped them in their postseason push to the NFC Championship — a game they lost to the Eagles.
In 2025, Lattimore only suited up for nine games, and recorded 27 total tackles, seven pass break-ups, one fumble recovery, and one interception. He was actually on pace to match some of his production from early in his career, but wasn’t able to make it 17 games after suffering an ACL injury. In fact, there has only been one season (2018) in his career that he was healthy enough to play in every game, and since 2022, the CB only played in 35 total regular season games out of a possible 68 — averaging just nine games per season.
Aside from injury concerns and a dip in production, Lattimore is a fiery player, which can be both a blessing and a curse. He’s one of those players that you love if they’re on your team, and hate if he’s on the visitor sideline. That kind of energy doesn’t really vibe with the Eagles locker room, and could unnecessarily add an abrasive personality to a pretty fun-loving, established CB room.
What do you think? Should the Eagles try to sign Marshon Lattimore? Let us know in the comments!
