The Los Angeles Rams enter an offseason in which they’ll have at least the ninth-most cap space to spend in free agency. With money to spend, it should allow the Rams to add a top player or two when free agency begins on March 9. The Rams will have financial flexibility that they haven’t had in recent years. Here are some players that they should keep an eye on as the free agency window opens.
1. Sign an experienced, top cornerback
- Riq Woolen
- Jamel Dean
- Greg Newsome II
- Jaylen Watson
If there is one thing that the Rams need to do in free agency, it’s to fill their immediate need at cornerback. They have to sign an experienced, top cornerback. There are a few available that would make a lot of sense. Riq Woolen is someone that the Rams should have interest in. He ranked 12th in coverage DVOA in 2025 and has experience in the NFC West. He brings a unique combination of size and speed that the Rams currently don’t have on the outside.
Outside of Woolen, Dean is another good option as someone that the Rams could trust to cover a top receiver. He’s the definition of “set it and forget it”. If the Rams miss out on the top options, Greg Newsome II was traded at the deadline last year and brings some upside. Jaylen Watson also brings length that the Rams need.
2. Add a reliable pass catcher
- Alec Pierce
- Jauan Jennings
- Rashid Shaheed
- Romeo Doubs
The Rams could benefit from adding a wide receiver this offseason and Alec Pierce is the cream of the crop. Pierce would be a perfect fit in the Rams offense as someone who can stretch the field and can also block in the run game. As the Rams lean into more 13 personnel, this is the type of receiver that they need to add as Pierce can do it all. However, Pierce is going to get paid a lot of money this offseason and may not be a player that the Rams can afford with how much they have invested at the position currently.
With that said, a secondary option should be on the table. The Rams need a third pass catcher and an upgrade over Konata Mumpfield and Jordan Whittington. Jauan Jennings would make sense as a player with experience in the offense and someone who is simply reliable. The term third-and-Jauan didn’t come out of nowhere. Doubs also comes from a similar offense in Green Bay and had a career-high 724 yards last season. Doubs has been inconsistent throughout his career, but has shown to be a threat in the red zone.
3. Go get an experienced pass rusher
- John Franklin-Myers
- Leonard Floyd
- Joey Bosa
The Rams are in a good spot on the defensive line in the sense that they don’t need a premier pass rusher. Jared Verse and Byron Young have been productive over the last two seasons and have proven to be one of the best duos in the NFL. Still, this is a group that needs an experienced player and a leader. That’s where someone like Leonard Floyd makes a lot of sense. Floyd isn’t as productive as he used to be, but his leadership value is something that the Rams could use. Jalon Walker said of Floyd last August,
“The way he’s taken me and James under his wing and been that veteran for us and the way he mentors and helps us and gives two cents and things like that in certain scenarios always helps out.”
That’s the type of player that the Rams are missing on the edge along the defensive line. Floyd isn’t going to get 10 sacks like he did in 2021, but as someone that can hold players accountable and help refine Verse’s game, he can play that role. Joey Bosa fits a similar mold, but has dealt with injuries. Another intriguing option would be John Franklin-Myers making a return to Los Angeles. He’s spent the last few seasons on a top defense and could help take this group to the next step.
4. Build on 13 personnel
- Isaiah Likely
- David Njoku
- Kyle Pitts
- Cade Otton
- Chig Okonkwo
The Rams offense seemed to find something in 13 personnel last season and need to continue building on that. While Colby Parkinson played well and Terrance Ferguson is promising, the Rams could use another player to upgrade from Tyler Higbee. Kyle Pitts will have a connection to Rams quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone. Ragone will also have some familiarity with Cade Otton who played in the NFC South and is a similar player as Higbee.
Still, it would be fun to see someone like David Njoku in the Rams offense. Njoku has played with the Cleveland Browns throughout his career and had several productive seasons. Njoku could be a player that Ferguson could learn from in year two as the Rams try to accelerate that development in the short-term with an experienced player. If the Rams plan on using 13 personnel again in 2026, Njoku would be a great fit.
5. Find reclamation project at quarterback
- Kenny Pickett
- Zach Wilson
- Sam Howell
Jimmy Garoppolo may be back and it would be hard to fault the Rams for doing the safe thing. However, an alternative here would be to try and find the next reclamation project at quarterback. This could be Matthew Stafford’s final season. Signing someone who could potentially start next year wouldn’t be a bad thing. Kenny Pickett and Zach Wilson are both former first-round picks. The Rams had interest in trading for Sam Howell before he joined the Seattle Seahawks in 2024.
This list doesn’t include players like Tua Tagovailoa or Kyler Murray who could move on from their teams. The Rams need to keep a reliable backup quarterback behind Stafford, but adding someone that they could potentially invest in going forward as the Minnesota Vikings did with Sam Darnold would be an added benefit.
