The Los Angeles Rams are hiring Robert Wright to the coaching staff, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Wright has spent the past 10 years working at the college level including the last two as co-defensive coordinator at Syracuse.
Hat tip to holtfan for being the first to see the news and post it to the Turf Show Times feed before anyone else.
Here is what Thamel said about Wright:
Sources: The LA Rams are set to hire Robert Wright as a defensive assistant. Wright is the former DC at Syracuse and Buffalo. In his first year at Syracuse, the Orange went 10-3 and defeated No. 6 Miami. Wright is a Mike Elko disciple with stops at Duke and Texas AM.
The Rams have added Kliff Kinsbury, Kyle Hoke, and Bubba Ventrone to the staff so far this offseason. They have withstood the potential loss of Chris Shula, who did not get a head coach offer in 2026 but could still be gone by 2027. There’s a long road to go before considering whether Wright has a future as a defensive coordinator in the NFL, but obviously there was enough there for Sean McVay to add him to the staff when he had the chance.
And when McVay tabs a coach for a role on his staff, there’s no telling how quickly his star could rise.
