Philadelphia Eagles defensive assistant Tyler Yelk is leaving the Birds to become Nebraska’s new safeties coach on Matt Rhule’s staff, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
Yelk previously overlapped with current Cornhuskers defensive coordinator Rob Aurich on the University of Idaho’s staff in 2022. Prior to that, Yelk and Aurich were college teammates at Division II Minnesota Duluth.
That was the last year Yelk spent coaching college football before joining the Eagles. He held three different titles while in Philly:
2023 — Eagles assistant to the head coach
2024 — Eagles head coach quality control
2025 — Eagles defensive assistant
It’s not clear what Yelk specifically contributed to the Eagles … but he was ultimately part of their Super Bowl LIX success.
It’s also not clear if Yelk’s contract expired or if the Eagles allowed him to leave.
In any case, Yelk is gone, and the Eagles might have another coaching position to fill depending on how they want to go about replacing him.
