The New York Giants are moving quickly to line up interviews for their vacant offensive coordinator position. Los Angeles Chargers quarterbacks coach Shane Day will interview with the Giants on Saturday, the third candidate added to head coach John Harbaugh’s list of possibilities on Thursday.
Reports on Thursday indicated the Giants had requested interviews with Indianapolis Colts’ passing game coordinator Alex Tanney (full story) and Colts’ offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter (full story). They had previously requested an interview with Denver Broncos’ quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Davis Webb (full story). Webb might be in line for a promotion to offensive coordinator in Denver.
Day, 51, has coached for the San Francisco 49ers twice, Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins, Chargers twice, and the Houston Texans. He has served in a variety of roles, but has never been an offensive coordinator. Day spent the last two years working for Jim Harbaugh with the Chargers.
Day interviewed for the Chargers’ offensive coordinator position before the team hired former Miami Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel for that job.
