The Los Angeles Rams may finally start investing in their special teams roles, starting with a new coordinator in 2026. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Rams have requested to interview Bubba Ventrone, the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator of the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns hired Todd Monken as their new head coach on Wednesday and the decision is expected to have significant fallout from the previous coaching staff under Kevin Stefanski, including rumors that highly-regarded defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz wants out after being passed over by the job. If Monken wants his own staff, or just can’t convince certain assistants to stay, Cleveland’s coaches are open season and Ventrone could be one of the hottest names among them.
The Rams fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn during the season following a series of missteps and special teams failures, but interim replacement Ben Kotwica was no better. That came true again in L.A.’s playoff loss to the Seahawks.
Ventrone was first hired as a special teams assistant by Bill Belichick on the 2015 Patriots. He then became the special teams coordinator of the Colts in 2018, where he stayed for five years. He has been working under Stefanski since 2023.
As a player, Ventrone was in the NFL from 2005 to 2014, known as the one of the league’s best special teamers and playing for the Patriots, Browns, and 49ers.
