Willie Taggart is expected to be the first member of John Harbaugh’s Baltimore Ravens coaching staff to join Harbaugh with the New York Giants.
Ian O’Connor of The Athletic reported that Taggart “will indeed be on the Giants staff.”
Taggart, 49, was on Harbaugh’s Baltimore staff as running backs coach the past two seasons. He was also the assistant head coach in 2025. Taggart interviewed for the Giants’ offensive coordinator position, but that seems destined to go to Todd Monken, who held that role in Baltimore the last three seasons. Taggart’s role, though not yet specified, seems likely to be the same one he had with the Ravens.
Taggart, a collegiate quarterback at Western Kentucky, has been coaching since 1999. The job with the Ravens was his first in the NFL.
Taggart has deep connections to the Harbaugh family. Per O’Connor, the younger Harbaughs recruited Taggart to play for their father at Western Kentucky.
Taggart then coached under Jack Harbaugh, father to John and Jim at Western Kentucky, and for Jim Harbaugh at Stanford. So, we has been well-versed in the Harbaugh way since 1995.
Who will coach the offensive line?
Giants fans bemoaning the fact that Harbaugh is not retaining popular and successful offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo, want to know the plan for a group that played well in 2025.
Two long-time coaching veterans, one obvious and one that might be considered out of left field, have been floated as possibilities.
George Warhop, 64, was Baltimore’s offensive line coach the past two seasons. His tenure with the Ravens played to mixed reviews, but Warhop has been an offensive line coach in the NFL since 1997. Here is the list of teams who have employed him as offensive line coach:
St. Louis Rams (1996-1997); Arizona Cardinals (1998-2002); Dallas Cowboys (2003-2004); San Francisco 49ers (2005-2008); Cleveland Browns (2009-2013); Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014-2018); Jacksonville Jaguars (2019-2021); Houston Texans (2022); Ravens (2024-2025).
The other possibility floated by O’Connor is Pat Flaherty, offensive line coach for Tom Coughlin’s entire tenure as head coach with the Giants and a two-time Super Bowl-winner.
Flaherty, 69, has been offensive line coach at Rutgers the past three seasons.
