Kam Kinchens only has two interceptions this season and they both came against the same team. They both came against the same quarterback. They both happened in the same game. Kinchens gets his chance to three-peat against Sam Darnold and the Seahawks during Sunday’s NFC Championship, an opportunity he’s openly excited about.
“Usually, you hope a guy doesn’t make the same mistake twice. In my case, I’m hoping (Darnold) makes the same mistake twice, because that’s more picks for me. Yes (the Seahawks are my favorite team to play against) because they like to test the secondary. They have good receivers and Sam Darnold wants to throw the ball down the field and push it down the field. That’s a lot of opportunities, and I love when I get to show my receiver skills.”
Notably, Kinchens’ performances against Seattle in 2025 were a tale of two safeties.
In Week 11, Kinchens had an elite performance, intercepting two passes and helping the Rams maintain a lead that allowed L.A. to walk out with a 21-19 victory.
However, in Week 16 the Seahawks still attacked Kinchens’ area and came away successful. On that Thursday night instant classic, throws by Darnold against Kinchens went 5-of-5 for 86 yards and a touchdown. That’s by far the worst game of Kinchens’ season, as he didn’t allow 50 or more yards in any other game and didn’t allow more than 20 yards in any game after Week 3 except for that one.
But Kinchens was praised for his play in the divisional round win over the Chicago Bears, as did fellow safety Kam Curl, and now he’ll get at least one more opportunity in the playoffs to end the season on a high note. He’s got one more game against the team he’s dominated for most of his chances against Seattle.
During Kinchens’ rookie season in 2024, he intercepted then-Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith twice during a 26-20 Rams overtime win. That was half of his picks in 2024.
For a total of 4 out of 6 career picks against the Seahawks.
With an NFC Championship against Seattle in two days, Kinchens is looking forward to his opportunity to both repeat … and redeem.
