Mike Kafka’s best option on the 2026 coaching carousel appears to have vanished. The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator, meaning the most logical landing spot for the New York Giants offensive coordinator and 2025 interim head coach is now gone.
Kafka coached under Andy Reid for five seasons before joining Brian Daboll’s staff as offensive coordinator in 2022. The Chiefs’ offensive coordinator position was open after Matt Nagy’s contract expired. Nagy was a candidate for the Tennessee Titans’ head-coaching job, and remains a possibility as an offensive coordinator for several teams.
New Giants coach John Harbaugh seems unlikely to retain Kafka on his 2026 coaching staff. Former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken is the favorite to get that job with the Giants. Kafka has interviewed for offensive coordinator jobs with the Philadelphia Eagles, Titans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Bieneimy coached with the Chiefs from 2013 to 2023. He was running backs coach the first five seasons, and offensive coordinator the last five. He spent 2025 as running backs coach for the Chicago Bears.
