John Harbaugh, thought in most circles to be the leading candidate for the New York Giants vacant head-coaching job, has completed his first interview since being fired by the Baltimore Ravens last week. It wasn’t with the Giants. Harbaugh interviewed on Monday for the Atlanta Falcons head coaching vacancy.
The Falcons fired head coach Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot at the end of the season. Former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is the team’s new president of football, and his first coup was getting an interview with Harbaugh.
Ian O’Connor of The Athletic is reporting that the interview was virtual. Harbaugh has yet to schedule any in-person interviews.
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Harbaugh “already has been conducting preliminary and extensive phone calls with the Giants, Titans, Browns, Raiders and Cardinals, per sources. He is trying to determine who to meet with later this week and into next week before making a decision. He is fully expected to coach in 2026, per sources.”
The Harbaugh Sweepstakes is officially underway. Stay tuned.
