Eagles Question of the Day:
How are you watching the Eagles-49ers game today? What’s your setup? Head over to The Feed and weigh in with your answer and explanation!
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Trent Williams is expected to play vs. Eagles – PFT
49ers left tackle Trent Williams appears set to play today against the Eagles. Williams is expected to play, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Williams said Friday that he feels confident in his ability to play through a hamstring injury that forced him to miss last week’s regular-season finale. “It’ll probably be in the back of my mind for a little bit, but once you get the juices flowing, the adrenaline, I don’t think it’ll be a problem,” Williams said.
Eagles Opponent Film Room: Scouting the San Francisco 49ers’ defense – BGN
This is a defense the Eagles have to exploit. The lack of pressure, lack of turnovers, and breakdowns in both run fits and coverage communication make this a get-right opportunity. The talent disparity here is real, and the film should reflect it. Against a defense that struggles to win individual matchups and relies heavily on structure to survive, the Eagles should be able to dictate terms and have success this week. If they don’t, I’ll be concerned moving forward.
3 keys to a 49ers win over the Eagles: Christian McCaffrey 30-touch game incoming? – Niners Nation
I alluded to it earlier this week, but the 49ers have to commit to the run game if they want to win on Sunday. The Eagles are fairly well-rounded. They have a good pass defense and a quality pass rush, potentially giving them the advantage over a 49ers passing game that may not have Ricky Pearsall on Sunday. But Philadelphia has been susceptible to the run this year. They rank 22nd in the NFL, allowing 124.4 rushing yards per game. And while they’re middle of the pack in yards allowed per carry (4.3), teams have also looked to run the ball on Philly at a high rate (27th in the NFL with 29.1 rushing attempts allowed per game). The 49ers have to run the ball at least 30 times. Against the Seahawks, the 49ers were not able to run the ball at all on early downs, even with Seattle playing its nickel package the entire game, as San Francisco missed Trent Williams up front. To run the ball at a high volume, you need success on early downs. In Philadelphia’s six losses, they gave up 130, 172, 125, 281, 169, and 143 rushing yards, averaging out to 170 yards a game. In their 11 wins, they allowed less than 100 rushing yards a game. So the 49ers’ efforts in the run game will be a big difference maker on Sunday.
Game Preview – SF at PHI – Iggles Blitz
The other side of the ball is more of a mystery for both teams. The Niners have an injury-depleted defense. They finished the season with 20 sacks. 20! That’s nuts. Over the last month they allowed 25 points and 121 rushing yards per game. Their overall numbers aren’t terrible, but many of the guys from early on are gone. We’ve discussed the Eagles offense all year long, waiting for it to finally get going. Never really did. This is the postseason and that will mean everything is on the table. Expect Jalen Hurts to use his legs more often. You aren’t protecting yourself for tomorrow. You’re focused on winning today. The game will be cold and windy so that could lead to additional focus on the run game. Saquon Barkley ran the ball better down the stretch. We’ll see how the coaches want to run the ball. That could be more under center stuff, heavier packages or more Cam Latu as a FB/lead blocker. The coaches have options. The real key will be the play of the OL. That group has struggled this season. Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens got last week off so that extra rest should help them.
Can Eagles’ defensive line dominate wild-card game against 49ers? – NBCSP
Something clicked. Right around the middle of the season. The Eagles’ defensive line, which had underachieved for two months, suddenly woke up. And they’ve been the strength of this defense – and this team – ever since. If the Eagles are going to beat the 49ers Sunday and go on another deep playoff run, it’s going to have to be largely on the back of a defensive line that’s finally playing up to expectations. “Man, we’re just a bunch of hungry dogs all pulling to get the same goal,” Nolan Smith said. “We’re just humble, and we’re just hungry, and we’re a young group, so, man, we bring our best every day, and that’s what we’re here to do, just as a collective group. “And I want to see everybody win, no matter who got the sack, what happens, it doesn’t matter. Just happy that the whole group can go out there and ball, and we do it together.”
Why Philly weather could be big factor for Eagles-49ers NFL wild card – Delaware Online
The National Weather Service is calling for an end to the rain in the morning, followed by increasing winds throughout the day. At game time, the temperature is expected to be 40 degrees with winds out of the west northwest at 16 mph. As the game goes along, the temperatures will drop to about 36 degrees while the winds will increase to 20 mph with higher gusts likely.
NFL Wild Card Playoffs: Bills-Jaguars, 49ers-Eagles betting preview (odds, lines, best bets) – PFF
TE George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers: Under 60.5 receiving yards (-120). George Kittle returned in Week 18 from an ankle injury that briefly sidelined him and posted modest production against the Seahawks, totaling 29 yards on five receptions. He worked almost exclusively near the line of scrimmage, seeing mostly short targets, with his 4.0-yard average depth of target marking his second-lowest figure in a game this season and potentially signaling lingering effects from the injury. Given his limited participation in practice, that appears to remain the case. Generating production against the Eagles defense will be difficult, as Philadelphia has consistently smothered tight ends. The Eagles have limited the position to just 5.1 yards per coverage target this season, a mark that sits a full yard lower than any other team in the NFL.
Eagles safety hit with massive Week 18 fine that wasn’t flagged during the game – NJ.com
Eagles safety Sydney Brown was fined $46,371 by the NFL for an unnecessary roughness infraction that was not flagged on the field during the Eagles’ Week 18 loss to the Washington Commanders. It was the largest fine of Brown’s career and the largest among the 23 players the league fined during Week 18.
Jason Arnold is walking through the detritus littering the Philadelphia Eagles post-game locker room, sidestepping assorted gloves, socks, athletic tape, empty Gatorade bottles, a discarded comb, an orange, a banana and even a toothbrush – used or unused is unclear. Just an hour or so earlier, the Eagles completed a 31-0 decimation of the Las Vegas Raiders and Arnold, who works for a company called The Realest, is here to collect select game-worn jerseys and the nameplates that sit atop the players’ lockers. He’s already gathered two five-gallon paint buckets worth of freshly shorn grass from Lincoln Financial Field and the pads that wrap around each of the goalpost stanchions. Later, he’ll reclaim a custom-made LED sign that hung in the Eagles’ tunnel entrance to the field. Photos of all of the stuff – right down to the grass clippings packaged to look like some sort of inedible cleat-trodden bottle of oregano – will be uploaded to the company’s website, where collectors can buy authenticated sports and entertainment memorabilia directly sourced from the teams, athletes and artists themselves. And if all goes as planned, it all could eventually find its way into the hands and homes of rabid Eagles’ fans in a sporting upcycling, wherein one NFLer’s leftovers and laundry make for someone else’s treasure.
John Harbaugh Gives This NFL Hiring Cycle the Juice It Was Missing – The Ringer
If we lower the bar to “somewhat plausible,” the most intriguing landing spot for John Harbaugh would be Philadelphia. The Eagles would have to go crashing out of the playoffs in embarrassing fashion to even consider moving on from a coach who’s won a Super Bowl in the last calendar year, but after Nick Sirianni gave away the 2-seed in the NFC this past weekend, a one-and-done is within the range of outcomes. The fan base wouldn’t bat an eye if general manager Howie Roseman fired Sirianni. It didn’t when he moved on from Doug Pederson just a few years after he won Philly its first Super Bowl. And the fan base isn’t happy with Sirianni after he and his hand-picked offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo, made a mess of the offense in 2025. Like Harbaugh, Sirianni isn’t known for his play calling chops. He was hired to maintain the vibes in the locker room, and even when the team was flying high last season, the vibes weren’t great. If Philadelphia wants a CEO-style head coach, Harbaugh would be the better option. And given his ties to the team—he was the Eagles’ special teams coordinator before jumping to Baltimore—Harbaugh would likely jump at the chance.
In all seriousness, we have been closely monitoring the Packers this season as the Dallas Cowboys hold their first-round pick this year as a result of the Micah Parsons trade. A reminder that Dallas also owns Green Bay’s first-rounder in 2027, but the Cowboys sent the better of their first-round picks in 2027 (as in whichever pick is earlier) to the New York Jets in the Quinnen Williams deal. Lots of moving parts here. Ultimately we are here now because the Packers lost and we now know where the Cowboys will pick.
Washington Commanders Coaching Tracker: Former Titans DC interviewed – Hogs Haven
Dennard Wilson is a veteran NFL coach who was the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans the last two seasons. He is the latest name added to the Washington Commanders interview list for their open defensive coordinator position. Wilson, 43, is a Hyatteville, MD native who went to DeMatha High School and played at Maryland. His only season in the NFL was with the Washington Redskins in 2004, playing safety on the practice squad. Wilson entered coaching after an injury ended his first season, going back to DeMatha as their passing game coordinator & DBs coach. He spent two years as a graduate assistant at Maryland before getting his first opportunity to coach in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams as a defensive quality control coach. Wilson spent time with the Jets, Eagles, and Ravens, before getting his first coordinator job with the Titans in 2024.
John Harbaugh or Kevin Stefanski? Which is best for the NY Giants? – Big Blue View
2026 is already shaping up to be the most exciting offseason in quite some time for the New York Giants. Four years ago, in 2022, the Giants hired Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll to modernize the franchise as well as try to salvage Daniel Jones as the team’s franchise quarterback. It was an exciting time, full of new possibilities, but this year seems different. This feels like the Giants are in the hunt for a “Once In A Decade” free agent. In a way, they are. The Giants are in the middle of a wide-ranging search for their next head coach, having reached out to eight different former head coaches, as well as a pair (as of this writing) of highly respected assistants. But really, the Giants’ coaching search seems like it’s coming down to two men: Former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. Those two bring experience and the promise of getting the Giants’ roster to play up to its talent level.
Bears Injury Update: Season likely over for T.J. Edwards and Ozzy Trapilo – Windy City Gridiron
During the Chicago Bears’ 31- 27 win over the Green Bay Packers, they lost a couple of starters to injury. Linebacker T.J. Edwards had to be carted off the field in the final minute of the half, and left tackle Ozzy Trapillo hopped to the sideline in the waning moments of the fourth quarter. Ozzy getting off the field without the referee needing to stop the game saved the Bears a timeout. In his postgame press conference, head coach Ben Johnson said that Edwards has a fractured fibula, which will take him out for the remainder of the postseason, and that Trapilo has a patellar tendon injury, which will likely end his season as well.
Finger gate: Everything we know about Matthew Stafford’s status – Turf Show Times
Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford suffered an injury to a finger on his throwing hand in the opening round of the playoffs against the Carolina Panthers. Whether it was due to the injury or not, Stafford easily had one of his worst games of the season. Both games against Carolina were his two-lowest graded performances according to Pro Football Focus (PFF). The Rams are fortunate that Stafford and the offense were able to come alive with the game on the line and secure a game-winning touchdown pass to Colby Parkinson.
Matthew Stafford snatched the Panthers’ hearts – SB Nation
With just over two minutes remaining in Saturday’s NFC Wild Card game between the Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Rams, Bryce Young connected with Jalen Coker on a seven-yard touchdown to stake Carolina to a 31-27 lead. The connection sent Bank of America Stadium into a frenzy, as the Panthers were on the verge of a massive upset after trailing early 14-0. But more than two minutes remained for Matthew Stafford, who earlier in the day had secured First-Team All-Pro honors. And as the Rams began their ensuing drive, the veteran quarterback had a simple message in the huddle. ”Let’s go snatch these guys’ hearts,” was the message, as relayed by wide receiver Davante Adams. ”One of the most gangster things I’ve heard,” described Adams.
