The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced two roster moves ahead of their Wild Card playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers. Here’s an overview:
- S Andre Sam and LS Charley Hughlett were temporarily elevated from the practice squad.
Note: teams can temporarily promote practice squad players up to three times each in the regular season and an unlimited number of times in the postseason.
Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
ANDRE’ SAM
The Eagles temporarily elevated Sam for three straight games from Week 13 through Week 15 after Andrew Mukuba suffered a knee injury that landed the rookie starter on injured reserve. Once his regular season elevations were used up, the Eagles pivoted to using Brandon Johnson in that role. But then Johnson got hurt in Week 18 and ended up on the practice squad injured list.
Sam figures to mainly contribute on special teams but he’s also around as a depth safety option behind Reed Blankenship, Marcus Epps, and Sydney Brown.
CHARLEY HUGHLETT
The Eagles obviously need a long snapper for this game and they don’t have one on the roster so they elevated Hughlett for that role.
