Hoping to avenge a regular season loss, the Los Angeles Rams trek to Charlotte, North Carolina to face off with the Carolina Panthers to open WildCard Weekend, the NFL’s first round of playoffs. The Saturday January 10 kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. PST at Bank of America Stadium. The 8-9 Panthers won the NFC South Division which secured the #4 seed, and the right to a home game, while the 12-5 finished in second place in the NFC West and earned the #5 seed.
It was just over a month ago that the Rams traveled this same course. On that November 30 day, L.A. stepped onto the field at Bank of America Stadium holding the NFC West lead and the #1 playoff seed. The Panthers played, arguably, their best game in years and behind a powerful run game, three explosive pass plays and a 3-0 turnover advantage, they toppled the Rams 31-28.
While the Rams are double digit favorites in the betting markets, the injury list favors the Panthers.
The L.A. list is long, starting right guard Kevin Dotson, and three rotation players receiver Jordan Whittington, tight end Terrance Ferguson, and safety/corner Josh Wallace have not been able to practice. Two more starters, defensive tackle Braden Fiske and tight end Tyler Higbee have been limited. The Rams did have some good news on two starters, receiver Davante Adams and safety Quentin Lake returned to full action.
Carolina appears at full strength with the full practice return of starting guard Robert Hunt (after an extended absence), as well as rotational players Turk Wharton, Bobby Brown, and Claudin Cherelus.
