The Detroit Lions have their third-known candidate for their offensive coordinator job. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Lions are planning to interview Seahawks pass game coordinator Jake Peetz for the job opening.
Peetz was one of the 13 candidates that our own Erik Schlitt identified as possible fits for the Lions’ offensive coordinator job.
“Jake Peetz (Seahawks pass game coordinator) worked alongside [Rams pass game coordinator Nathan] Scheelhaase in 2023 but left for Seattle in 2024 to work under Mike Macdonald.“
Peetz has been coaching football at all levels for the last 20 years. He’s been alongside some iconic coaches throughout those two decades. He spent a season as an Alabama offensive assistant under Nick Saban, served as an assistant under then-Raiders offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, was the Panthers’ running backs coach under OC Norv Turner, and Peetz was quarterbacks coach when Joe Brady took over the offense. He also served as LSU offensive coordinator for a year under Ed Orgeron before jumping to Sean McVay’s coaching staff in 2022 as an offensive assistant.
Peetz was promoted in 2023 to Rams pass game specialist, but then joined the Seahawks’ staff in 2024, where he has served as pass game coordinator for the past two seasons. Under Peetz, Geno Smith had a relatively strong season, posting a career-high 70.4 completion percentage in 2024. His success continued this year with Peetz helping Sam Darnold continue his success, leading to the Seahawks earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC this year.
Because the Seahawks are on a bye in the playoffs, the Lions can interview him anytime before the Wild Card games are complete this weekend. However, once Wild Card weekend is over, Peetz is off limits until the Seahawks are eliminated.
Peetz is the third known candidate for the Lions’ OC job. You can see all the other candidates with our 2026 Detroit Lions coaching tracker.
