Why every team in the 2025-26 College Football Playoff Semifinals can win the national championship

Each of Indiana, Oregon, Ole Miss and Miami (FL) boasts a trait that not only has led it to the College Football Playoff semifinals, but also that separates it from the rest of the field.

Why every team in the 2025-26 College Football Playoff Semifinals can win the national championship

  • Indiana doesn’t have a flaw: The Hoosiers are the highest-graded team in college football right now.
  • Miami is the best team in the country in the trenches: The Hurricanes are dominant both along the offensive line and the defensive line.

We’re down to the final four of the College Football Playoff: Indiana, Oregon, Ole Miss and Miami (FL)

Here’s why each of those teams can capture the national championship.

It’s hard to find a true weakness in Indiana right now. The Hoosiers’ 96.8 overall PFF grade is the best in college football, as they’re first in offensive grade (95.4) and second in defensive grade (94.4). It’s why Indiana is the only undefeated team still standing in the sport and is the favorite to capture the program’s first national championship.

Oregon Ducks: Loaded offense

Oregon’s defense is also outstanding, placing eighth nationally with a 92.7 grade as a unit. But the Ducks are strongest on the other side of the ball: Their 92.1 offensive grade is third in the nation. Oregon has a projected top-five pick at quarterback in Dante Moore, one of the nation’s most efficient ground games, one of the best offensive lines in the country and a receiving corps with plenty of talent.

Ole Miss Rebels: An electric quarterback with excellent skill-position players

Ole Miss’ magical run to the College Football Playoff semifinals is largely due to how efficient its offense has been, even without head coach Lane Kiffin. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is coming off a season-high 91.8 PFF grade in the win over Georgia in the quarterfinals. On top of that, the Rebels are fifth nationally with an 87.4 PFF receiving grade, and running back Kewan Lacy is third nationally with 88 forced missed tackles.

No team in the country is more dominant in the trenches than Miami. The Hurricanes lead the nation in both team PFF pass-blocking grade (87.4) and team PFF pass-rush grade (92.3) this year. Miami is also 10th in team run-blocking grade and 15th in team PFF run-defense grade. The Hurricanes have two projected top-10 picks in their trenches in edge defender Rueben Bain Jr. and offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa.
