The NFL coaching carousel is underway for the 2026 offseason. Currently, there are seven head coaching vacancies, which means there are coaches at all levels of the NFL that may be looking for employment and teams that are searching for new blood within their organization.
For the Detroit Lions, there is bound to be some overturn amongst their ranks, as well. While they won’t be searching for a new head coach, there is already a vacancy at offensive coordinator after the team parted ways with John Morton after just one season. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Lions make a few more moves amongst their ranks.
It’s also possible some of the Lions’ staff eventually interviews for other positions. The Falcons have already tapped Lions COO Mike Disner as a candidate for their president of football operations position. More could be on the way.
This post will keep track of it all: the Lions coaching additions, coaching losses, and candidates for any vacant positions that have been reported. We will continually update this post with the latest news for the 2026 Detroit Lions coaching staff, so make sure you continue to check in here.
Detroit Lions coaching vacancies
Offensive coordinator — Fired John Morton
Candidates
- Commanders assistant QB coach David Blough (unclear if interviewed)
Note: The Lions often do their search in the shadows, so while this candidate list is small, the Lions will likely conduct several unreported interviews. Last year, Campbell estimated they did 24-26 interviews between both coordinator positions, but only a fraction of them were reported.
