In the past three years, the Los Angeles Rams have stayed the course with the offensive line decisions that they made to recover from the disaster that was 2022. Most of the pieces were in place by 2023, but it took patience by Sean McVay and Les Snead for the Rams to come out on the other side with the best offensive line in the NFL. According to some analytics, the Rams also have the best offensive line of the past 30 years.
Per Aaron Schatz of FTN Fantasy (formerly Football Outsiders), the Rams have the best Adjusted Line Yards mark in 30 years:
“This stat measures blocking by cutting runs at specific distances to separate blocking from the RB in the open field.”
The movement started when the Rams drafted Steve Avila in the second round of the 2023 draft, moved former UDFA A.J. Jackson into a starting role at left tackle, and traded for right guard Kevin Dotson from the Pittsburgh Steelers just before the 2023 season. That same year, L.A. made another low key move by drafting Warren McClendon in the sixth round.
The Rams parted ways with Coleman Shelton in 2024 (and overpaid Jonah Jackson, who was a poor fit), but brought Shelton back in 2025.
Now at the end of the 2025 regular season, the Rams rank first in scoring, first in yards, first in passing yards, sixth in rushing yards per carry, and Matthew Stafford was only sacked 23 times.
It is Stafford’s lowest sack rate since 2013.
Kyren Williams and Blake Corum combined for just under 2,000 rushing yards. Corum averaged 5.1 yards per carry and Williams is at 4.8. The Rams are moving bodies like they haven’t done in many years, although the 2018 offensive line was SECOND on the same list posted by Schatz.
It’s a testament to Snead and McVay’s ability to build an elite offensive line…twice.
Conversely, the Carolina Panthers spent a lot of money and high draft picks on their offensive line and it’s not working out at all. They actually haven’t won a single game this year with their starting offensive line:
Building an offensive line could be the hardest thing to do in the NFL. The Rams have now done it multiple times just in the Sean McVay era alone.
