The New York Giants will be interviewing former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski for their own vacant head coaching position.
This news, which was first reported by Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, is completely expected. Art Stapleton quickly confirmed the report, adding that Stefanski would be interviewing Wednesday.
As an unemployed coach, Stefanski is eligible for in-person interviews at any time, hence his quick appearance in New York.
It was widely speculated even before Stefanski was fired that Stefanski would be a top target for the Giants’ coaching search should he become available.
Stefanski, 44, has spent six years as the coach of the Browns amassing a 45-56 record, with a 37-30 record over his first four seasons. He’s widely regarded as a keen offensive mind who’s incorporated offensive concepts from Andy Reid, Pat Shurmur, Norv Turner, Gary Kubiak and Klint Kubiak.
Stefanski was referred to as an “ideal fit” for the Giants’ coaching position by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who first reported the rumblings that Stefanski could be fired.
He also has an interview scheduled with the Tennessee Titans
