Lane Johnson is expected to return to practice on Wednesday ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Wild Card game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon, according to a report from the Inquirer’s Jeff McLane.
Johnson has been unavailable since suffering a Lisfranc injury during the Eagles’ Week 11 win over the Detroit Lions. There was originally thought that Johnson could return in Week 15 since the team didn’t place him on injured reserve. After that didn’t happen, there was reporting that Johnson could return to practice in Week 16 or Week 17 … but that clearly didn’t happen, either.
And so it seems like the Eagles felt it best for Johnson to wait until the playoffs to try to play again. On that note, it’s still 100% clear that he’ll be able to suit up this weekend. More reporting from McLane:
Johnson has made progress in his recovery, but still has to test his right foot before the team makes a decision on his availability for Sunday’s wild card game vs. the 49ers.
The guess here is he’ll start but we’ll see if he can make it through the game. If Lane can’t play or can’t make it through the game, it’ll be Fred Johnson starting once again. Fred’s obviously no Lane but he’s been a solid option as a fill-in starter.
Getting Lane back would be a big boost for an offense that could really use one. We’ll see how he progresses in practice leading up to Sunday’s game.
