All three of the San Francisco 49ers starting linebackers are dealing with injuries, and Tatum Bethune has been ruled out for the playoff run with a groin injury. Their starting WILL, Dee Winters, has an ankle injury, and their starting SAM, Luke Gifford, has a quad injury. There’s still a chance that Winters and Gifford can play against the Eagles during Wild Card Weekend, but there will be a good number of backups playing at the position.
In his second season, Bethune recorded 94 total tackles, four pass breakups, and one sack, and had an elevated role as injuries affected the defense. With Bethune out, those MIKE snaps will go to Curtis Robinson, and Garrett Wallow and Nick Martin will be on stand-by if needed. All-Pro starter Fred Warner is on injured reserve and reportedly won’t be ready to play until the NFC Championship Game, if the 49ers make it there.
Bethune missing Sunday’s game will be good news for the Eagles offense, who could probably use any help they can get given their uneven performances this season.
