The Philadelphia Eagles are three-point home favorites in their Wild Card playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers next weekend, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
For the uninitiated, the home team being favored by three points is standard in a game with two teams that are viewed to be relatively even. UPDATE: As I was writing this story, the Eagles moved to 3.5-point home favorites.
The Eagles should be entering the playoffs feeling pretty good about Vic Fangio’s defense. It’s possible they could stifle a 49ers offense that was looking red hot prior to San Francisco’s Week 18 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Kyle Shanahan’s squad mustered just a mere three points at home with the No. 1 seed on the line.
The Niners’ defense is banged up and bad; San Fran ranks 24th in EPA per play, 27th in DVOA, and 30th in success rate. Of course, we’ve seen the Eagles’ offense struggle to take advantage of bad defenses this season. Look no further than their narrow win against the Buffalo Bills.
With Nick Sirianni deciding to prioritize resting players over maximizing the team’s chances of getting the No. 2 seed, the Eagles better look fresh and ready to beat the Whiners.
I think the spread is close here and we could see a game decided by a field goal. I can envision the Eagles doing just enough to get the win.
What say you?
