The future is… Well, it might not be now for the New York Giants, but it will be soon.
The Giants have one more game left in the 2025 season, their Week 18 finale against the Dallas Cowboys. Then on Monday, the coaching search will begin in earnest when the Giants will submit their list of interview requests to the NFL.
And for one last time this season we asked Giants fans whether they feel the team is headed in the right direction. And while we’ve gotten the most positive results in some time, fans are still split on the team’s future.
Part of fans’ tempered enthusiasm likely has to do with the fact that there is just so much we don’t know.
The big question is, of course, “Who will coach the Giants in 2026?”
Landing the right coach would hopefully provide the spark to propel the Giants out of the NFL’s cellar and into consistent contention. Part of the frustration with the team — or rather, the frustration here, at least — is that the team has the talent to compete with playoff teams, but doesn’t do so consistently. They have the players to push good teams to the brink, but not the execution to finish those games.
While ESPN recently reported a list of coaching candidates in whom the Giants are interested, we don’t know if this is the full list or how much is speculative. Likewise, we simply don’t know who that coach will be, or if he’ll be the right man for the job.
But if the Giants do finally hire the right coach, who has a coherent vision for the team, can assemble a staff to properly develop the players, and the discipline to see it all through, the Giants have quite a bit to work with. They seem to have their quarterback of the future, as well as an exciting nucleus of young players. Likewise, they’ll have a high draft pick and are in solid financial shape with 22.96 million in cap space (18th-most Top-51, per Spotrack) and almost no dead cap money ($216,988.00, 2nd least).
The Giants could be primed for a rapid turnaround if they get their coaching hire right and have a good off-season.
There are reasons for skepticism as well as optimism, so only half of fans being confident in the direction of the team is about right. That said, it’s a marked uptick from where the confidence numbers have been over the previous month.
We will try to keep tabs on fan confidence as much as possible as the off-season gets underway. It will be interesting to see how the Giants’ ultimate draft position, and obviously how the coaching search unfolds, impacts fan confidence.
