Happy holidays, Eagles fans, as Hard Knocks continues on!
Here are some choice thoughts on the fifth episode of Hard Knocks: In-Season with the NFC East that aired on Tuesday evening on HBO and HBO Max:
1. Liev Schreiber, early on in the episode, narrated, “It’s time for the Giants to get back to winning.” Back to when exactly? 15 years ago?
2. A young Giants fan asked Jaxson Dart who the team’s biggest rival is. He, naturally, said the Eagles. I’d say that rivalry feels a bit one-sided! Since the beginning of the 2012 NFL season, the Giants have won just a single playoff game and have never won the NFC East. The Eagles, conversely, won the division six times, including this year, and two Super Bowls. It isn’t 2000 anymore!
3. A focus on Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship being buddies, down to Blankenship poking fun at DeJean about his first Pro Bowl nod, was the most fun moment of the night for Eagles fans. Their “milking the cow” celebration, is, uh, certainly something:
4. I did like the inclusion of a Christmas song from the Killers during the rather holiday-themed episode (though it was for a Cowboys victory montage).
5. Eagles inside linebackers coach Bobby King showcasing videos of sumo wrestling as a motivational tactic for Eagles defenders? I couldn’t be more into it.
6. The Eagles sure seemed prepared for the weather, elements and intensity that playing in Orchard Park would bring. Josh Allen and his disastrous fumbling, even in his home stadium, wasn’t!
7. I know it’s far from the crux of this episode, but, sheesh, watching highlights of this Giants-Raiders, it’s so apparent that Las Vegas was so much worse than every other team in the league this season, right down to the Birds’ offense putting up a crooked number on them a few weeks back.
8. I can’t recall ever seeing an Eagles defense tackle and hit as hard as they did on Sunday. Those popping pads were even better the second time around in this game’s included highlight reel. It was some Friday Night Lights-level cinematic height that they reached. I need that every week until February in Santa Clara.
